The story behind sokoon
I grew up in the Middle East, where therapy is expensive, access is limited, and the cultural pressure around mental health means most people never seek help at all. You don't tell your family. You don't tell your community. You carry it alone, and 3 am spiraling doesn't care about any of that. It doesn't care that you can't talk to the people around you, or that the stigma means you're not even sure you're allowed to feel what you're feeling.
So I turned to AI. And it helped. But it also forgot everything every single time I closed the app. I'd have to re-explain myself. Re-establish context. Start from zero, every time, at my lowest moments. It felt like talking to a stranger over and over again. I just needed something that shows me where I am right now, and what has been going on for me, so I can look back and reflect.
What sokoon actually is
Sokoon is an AI mental health app with persistent memory. It remembers what you tell it and uses that context to support you, not just respond to you. The relationship grows over time. You are able to view and gain insights from your previous conversations. It doesn't reset.
The characters inside sokoon were built in collaboration with clinical psychologists and mental health professionals. Every response is grounded in evidence-based frameworks, CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and compassionate support techniques, not the generic "I hear you" replies. This isn't a chatbot with a friendly name. The emotional intelligence here was designed with people who have spent careers understanding how humans actually heal.
