Brilliant. I do the trip all the time. BART to airport to Fucking TSA, to delayed flights, to cattle-car-sardine packing. I welcome this. I can imagine some good conversations with the other riders too. What about in the other direction?
@rrhoover you've got to factor in as well that the flights can get pretty expensive (~$250); and you also waste a load of time during checking in, stuck on the runway waiting for it to take off etc.

Nice

I would LOVE this, but I worry about the legality/safety of having passengers both not wearing seat belts and lying flat. I'd guess that's the reason bunk/sleeper style travel has been limited to trains in the past.

@kevinflo Megabus has been doing this in the UK for awhile. It's called Megabus Gold. Albeit this is much more fancier.

It looks like the service has changed some things recently. I have posted the FAQ from their site below.
What are the amenities on the SleepBus?
A privacy screen for each bed, personal power outlets, reading light, WiFi, fresh luxury sheets, coffee, tea, seating areas, and a restroom. There is also a SleepBus attendant on each trip to answer any of your questions and to take care of you during the ride.
How early should I arrive for check in?
You should aim to arrive at the pick up location 10-20 minutes before departure. Departure time is 11pm sharp in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. After we get to LA/SF in the morning, you'll be able to keep sleeping until 9:00am.
How long is the bus ride?
Given normal traffic and weather conditions, the average bus ride lasts 6-6.5 hours.
What are the departure and arrival times in SF and LA?
Departure time will always be 11pm sharp. Arrival times will vary, though we expect to arrive in either city by 5am or 6am.
How much luggage can I bring?
You can bring up to 3 full size bags for free. You can also bring your bike or other equipment (we have lots of space!)
Can I bring my children?
Children under 10 can share a bunk free with their parents, or can buy a separate bunk.
Can I bring my pet?
You will be able to bring your animals, we are working out the details and will be posting on our website soon!
I take the train between SJ and LA every other month or so, and find this an interesting alternative (the Coast Starlight takes it's time - 10+hours). I'd want to know what controls they have in place to ensure fresh, awake drivers. Edit: There's also a curious lack of information on the website.
$65 one way is pretty compelling. In the market position, the company kinda has to fit into the value/price range between Megabus, Bolt Bus, Greyhound ($15-60) and the quick flight (can be as low as $69). I've done the Amtrak Starlight Coastline before and got a cheap private sleeper pod. It's about 10 hours and can be delayed but has decent wifi and incredible views. Also a consideration, the market alternatives also includes just renting a car in SF and driving to LA. You're going to need a car in LA anyway :)
