@avizuber Thanks for the feedback! a) Yes to plans for an API! Are there any integrations that would specifically move the needle for you? b) Consider your interest an upvote for that on our side. Mobile is a big part of who we are. We think that kind of thing would be cool too. c) Did you try the windows version we have now?

@avizuber Skynet is designed for seamlessly moving (small, purpose-built) apps directly between people. Much of our plan to open up an API/SDK for Skynet is about helping others build awesome experiences that integrate and embed in the conversation itself. We're especially interested in embedding experiences that make developers (and makers) more productive!

@makanikai No specific API needs right now, but I love the idea of using things that are part of the Zapier eco-system. I didn't get a chance to try your current version, but would be more than happy to check it out and send you feedback. You got my upvote today either way. I'll have more time next week. :)

@ssnacks You're correct that it's not currently supported. We've thought a lot about how to bring the ability to SMS (for everyone, not just Google Voice users!) directly into the conversation and are really excited about it. Can you share more about what you're hoping for?

@ajbouh I want to replace the Hangouts extension in Chrome. It is buggy and often has to be restarted. I use that to mostly communicate with people via SMS through Google Voice.

@ssnacks Got it. Unfortunately we aren't aware of any public/third-party-accessible APIs that allow that sort of sending. I believe this is partially due to the amount of churn in Google's own product offering. To others: if anyone knows of third party apps that have pulled this off recently, we'd love to learn about them! We'll definitely keep you posted about progress we make on this front.

@kaz We wanted to experiment with actions that integrate with existing web services that people were already using (not just p2p stuff like file sharing & screenshots). We were big fans of their previous incarnation (hu.tt) ... it was the only Web RTC-based video chat that "just worked" for a long time. Once they relaunched it under the gotomeeting brand, and it seemed like something that they'd continue to support, we couldn't resist.

@kaz this is so much better than hangouts video. it actually works consistently! So easy to add people.

@zsims Our current users end up depending pretty heavily on Hangouts integration to avoid missing messages while on the go. This definitely only a stop gap solution as (unfortunately) not all Skynet features are available to Hangouts users. The genesis of Skynet was based on our experiences building mobile software. We're especially excited about reducing the number of places people NEED to go to communicate (SMS, email, phone calls, 1000 different messengers, etc.) and helping people find each other from within various mobile apps. There's a big trend in mobile that puts a little slice of conversation in every app. We're psyched to flip that around and embed a slice of each app into the conversation.

@huanancy That'd be memegen & vidcon. Bring on the feedback! Another thing to point out is that we actually apply live updates. By that I mean we update the app on-the-fly while running. A connected Skynet is an up to date Skynet!

@charlesforman Thanks, Charles! Group chats are a little hard to find right now but something that our existing users seem to really enjoy. A SHORT GUIDE TO GROUPS IN SKYNET Since groups in Skynet are completely private and invitation-only, you need to create one or be invited to an existing one. To make one: - Click "Create New Group..." in the tray menu - Choose a name based on the intended topic (like "music-lovers") - Consider sending a few messages (or links to good music or sweet memes) before inviting others, so they get the idea behind the group - Use the invite window that opens alongside the conversation to enter email addresses of existing Skynet users or names of Hangouts contacts (if enabled) At this time we don't send emails to non-users upon invite, but we do send Hangouts messages as appropriate. People are using groups in Skynet for work, music sharing, meetings, and project/task coordination. Keep the feedback coming!
