Freelancers lose 3-5 hours/week to "just checking in" emails. SitRep kills them. Post updates → Share one magic link → Clients check whenever they want. No client login. No app to install. No "can we hop on a quick call?" Just a clean timeline they bookmark and check on their time. ✨ What's different: • Magic links (zero friction for clients) • They control notifications (instant/daily/weekly) • Not another bloated PM tool—just updates
Hey everyone!
I built SitRep because I was stuck in status update hell.
As a freelancer, I had 5-6 active clients at any time. Every week, at least half of them would send some version of "Hey, quick update?" And every time, I'd stop what I was doing, write 3-4 paragraphs, attach screenshots, hit send... only to get "Thanks!" back. Rinse and repeat. 3-5 hours/week, gone.
I tried everything from weekly email templates, Notion pages (clients never checked them), Slack channels, scheduled calls (the worst—30 min for 2 min of info)
The real problem? Clients don't want to wait for updates. They want to CHECK updates on their own time, without asking. As a result, I built the simplest thing that could work: a timeline you post to, a magic link you share, and email notifications they control.
That's it. No login for clients. No app to install. No 47-feature PM suite to learn.
I learned that clients actually LOVE not having to email you. The magic link removes guilt on both sides. Simple beats powerful. I cut 60% of my original feature list. What's left is what people actually use. I'm still freelancing, still using SitRep daily, and still iterating based on real usage.
Would love to hear:
- How do YOU currently handle client updates?
- What would make this more useful for your workflow?
