Classic server panels work the same way. Their backend holds an SSH key or runs an agent with root, and it can execute anything on your servers. If the panel's backend gets compromised, every server connected to it is compromised too.
We built Servor around the opposite rule. Your private key stays in your browser. Every command you send is signed there with Ed25519, and the agent on the server checks the signature before it runs anything. A command sent to 20 servers gets 20 signatures, one per server, so a signature can't be replayed on another machine.
Can I manage servers running on different Linux distributions from the same console?
@renly_borris Yes. One console for all of them. The agent is a single static binary, so it runs the same way on Ubuntu, Debian, Alpine, Rocky, Fedora, Arch, openSUSE and others, on x86 and ARM. You can even mix in macOS and Windows machines.
Each server shows its distribution, and recipes check the system first before doing anything (apt vs dnf vs apk, systemd or not). That way, the same recipe works across your fleet.
Congrats, Servor team! Nice to be launching alongside you today. Benson is live too: https://www.producthunt.com/products/benson-2. Would appreciate a comment or some support if you get a spare minute. Hope it's a good day for you!
@dougsilkstone1 Thanks Doug, and congrats on the Benson launch! I'll take a look today. Good luck to both of us 🚀
