Reviewers see Coolify as a practical, polished way to run apps, databases, and full stacks on a VPS without giving up control. Coolify is fantastic because it gives you the full power of a managed platform without surrendering control — or your wallet.

I self-host my entire stack (backend API, frontend, Redis, PostgreSQL, and more) on a single VPS, and Coolify makes it feel as simple as Vercel — but without the vendor lock-in or the per-seat pricing that scales against you.

What needs improvement

A few things I'd love to see improved:

No built-in monitoring — logs are there, but no CPU/memory graphs or alerting per service. You end up wiring in external tools for anything beyond crash detection.

No preview deployments — per-PR preview URLs are table stakes now. Vercel set the bar; Coolify hasn't matched it yet.

Rollback UX — it's possible but not obvious. A clear deployment history with a one-click redeploy would go a long way during incidents.

Documentation depth — the happy path is covered well; edge cases (multi-server, custom Traefik rules, failed build debugging) still require Discord spelunking.

Great product overall — these are the gaps between "great" and "exceptional."

vs Alternatives

Heroku

Before settling on Coolify, I seriously evaluated several alternatives:

Vercel + Railway — the obvious combo for a Next.js + Node stack. Vercel is exceptional for the frontend, but Railway's pricing becomes unpredictable at scale, and splitting infra across two platforms means double the vendor relationships, double the config, and no single place to see what's running.

Render — clean UX, good DX, but the free tier is sleep-based and paid plans add up fast once you need persistent services. Still vendor lock-in, still no control over the underlying machine.

Heroku — the grandfather of the category. Post-acquisition pricing killed it for most indie projects. Hard pass.

CapRover — the closest self-hosted alternative. Solid, but the UI feels dated, the community is smaller, and it lacks some of Coolify's polish around multi-environment management and first-class database support.

Kamal (by 37signals) — powerful, but it's CLI-first and assumes you're comfortable writing deploy config by hand. Great for teams with DevOps experience; less friendly for solo developers who just want things to work.

What made Coolify win: it's the only option that combines a genuinely modern UI, GitHub-native CI/CD, automatic HTTPS, one-click databases, and full self-hosting — all without requiring you to become a Docker expert first. The community is active, updates ship fast, and the founder is genuinely responsive.

It's not perfect — the learning curve exists — but no alternative came close to this combination at this price point (essentially: cost of a VPS).

I use Coolify every day as the place where all my local projects live, and I honestly cannot imagine going back to manual Docker and SSH. It turns my simple server into a small Heroku-style platform that I fully control, but without any vendor lock-in or surprise bills.

The web UI is clean and fast, deployments are easy, and spinning up new services or databases takes just a few clicks instead of a whole evening of copy-pasting configs. I really like that it works with pretty much any stack I throw at it and can run on my own hardware or a small VPS.

For me, Coolify hits the sweet spot between power and simplicity: I get automatic SSL, monitoring, and one-click services, but it still feels like I am in charge of my own infrastructre.

It has become my default dashboard for experiments, hobby projects, and tools I want to keep close to home. If you enjoy self-hosting and want an easy way to manage multiple apps on your own server, Coolify is a joy to use.

Great software and user experience, I have hosted and used lots of systems before that did try do something similar but never felt they actually care about usability aspect, how easy/quick you can host this stuff, spin up new projects. Very active developer maintaining this and working basically full time on it. Highly recommended if you tried before something like Dokku or maybe Docker hosting via your nas/home server via Ansible-NAS, DietPi HomelabOS Openmedia Vault etc

Feels incredibly stable for its current stage in development. It's easy to set up and even easier to deploy an application. The "service"-section, which installs a pre-defined list of services with only one click, is an incredible time saver. The only thing I am missing is a more advanced port mapping configuration, so that you can easily run things like AdGuard Home.

I like the fact that the tool is opensource. It has all the features I need for developing. Not overloaded with high-end enterprise functionality, most people don't need regularly. Nice that you can easily use custom domains and the tool cares about the SSL certificates. It works well on a low-end VPS. Can confidently recommend it for everyday use.

I create my product hunt account just to give this project 5 stars because it deserves much more attention. Is an amazing product to easily deploy full stack projects. In my case, is the solution after heroku leaving the free tier. I tried some solutions but they lack some features, are outdated or didn't work well. Coolify solves every problem that the alternatives has. Need the option to make backups, but I think that it will come more soon that later because is listed, and they listen the community.

super amazing alternative to paid PaaS options. incredibly fast to set up, zero-effort to spin up new services, and quite powerful! it's really nice seeing a solid open source self hostable option out there for PaaS functionality, and even though it's still got a long way to go from being what I would consider a fully comprehensive platform, there is an impressive amount of steady feature development. in a year I can see this being my go-to for literally any project I build.

I found it very usefull for even production server, Just need some imporvement in their documentation. Faced some issues in remote docker stuff and It would be great, If we can add remote backup server in it. This is very useful when running in production.
