SerpStep launched after 3 months of solo dev, born from frustration: every SEO tool shows 47 metrics but none tells you what to do next. Today's launch: Keyword Opportunity (SERP analysis + difficulty scoring), SERP Explainer (why each page ranks and where it's weak), Content Brief Generator (outlines backed by SERP evidence), Idea-to-Keywords, and 20 supported markets. Free tier: 3 analyses/month. Next: competitor tracking and portfolio management.

We’ve shipped a meaningful update to SerpStep.
The biggest change: Keyword Opportunity now separates ranking difficulty from actual search demand.
A keyword can look easy to rank for and still be a bad use of your time. SerpStep now checks both sides before suggesting what to do next.
What’s new:
Search Demand evidence powered by Google Ads data via DataForSEO
Average monthly searches, 12-month trend, CPC, and paid-search competition
A clearer decision system: Build / Narrow / Validate / Skip for now
Search demand and organic difficulty are kept separate instead of being blended into one mystery score
Missing demand data is shown as Unavailable, never guessed or treated as zero
AI explanations now explain SerpStep’s deterministic decision instead of generating a second opinion
Improved SERP page classification and evidence consistency
Cleaner reports and Markdown exports
Domain Checker is now available, using authoritative RDAP data to distinguish registered, not currently registered, and unverifiable domains
The principle behind the update is simple:
Easy to rank doesn’t automatically mean worth targeting.
SerpStep is becoming less about showing SEO metrics and more about answering the question indie builders actually care about:
More updates are coming as we continue turning SerpStep into an evidence-backed SEO decision workflow for solo founders and indie hackers.
Would love your feedback if you try the new flow.
I am continuously optimizing SerpStep's features. I hope it will continue to improve.
