how does it handle different lighting in the room? does the shade adjust to look accurate on cooler vs warmer tones or is it pretty much the same color regardless
@sinem1058630 Lighting yes, colour temperature no. We sample the real luminance of your nail every frame and multiply the shade by it, so real shadows and the room's actual highlight carry through and track your hand as it moves. But we only read brightness, never colour — so warm vs cool light won't tint the shade, you always see the true colour. Adapting to ambient temperature is on the roadmap; getting the shading right came first.
How does it handle different lighting conditions when you're actually painting in real time? Curious if the color matching stays accurate in warm indoor light versus bright daylight, or if you have to recalibrate between sessions.
@akyunakela21645 There's nothing to calibrate — no setup step, no session state. We sample the real luminance of your nail every frame, so shadows and the room's actual highlight carry through and update live as you move between warm indoor light and daylight. But we only ever read brightness, never colour — so the hue stays the true catalogue shade in both, rather than drifting warm or cool. That's exactly why it doesn't need recalibrating. In a very dim room it'll read darker (there's a light toggle for that), and adapting to ambient colour temperature is still on the roadmap.
Tried it on the TestFlight and the per-finger color switching feels surprisingly natural, like the polish is actually catching the light on each nail. Loved that nothing left my phone.
@savazverjtjn Thank you — that's exactly the reaction we were going for. The light-catching isn't faked: no baked normal map, we sample the real luminance of your actual nail every frame and pull the highlight out of the genuine bright band, per finger. So it moves because your hand moved. And to be precise on privacy: no camera frame ever leaves the device — all segmentation runs locally, no upload, no server inference. (We do send anonymous usage analytics and fetch the shade catalogue, but never images.)
