Another classic launch from @sindresorhus — a simple, straightforward app for capturing notes. Activate it with a keyboard shortcut so you can quickly take synced notes at a moment's notice.

Hey PH. I made this to scratch my own itch. I love making simple apps that solve a single problem. I often need to just paste text somewhere to modify it and then copy-paste further. For example, I need to write a long comment on a website. I don't trust websites. They lose stuff all the time. So I use this to write the comment and then copy-paste it into the website. Scratchpad is also perfect for brain dumps, quick drafts, fleeting ideas, or just copy-pasting something in to make it plain text. The app is plain-text only and simple by design. It’s not designed to compete with full-featured note apps but to serve as a convenient, lightweight addition. It's available for macOS, iOS, and visionOS. It supports iCloud sync. The app is a one-time payment. There is a trial available for the macOS version. I would appreciate feedback through the feedback button in the app if you notice anything missing or that could be improved. Make sure to read the FAQs.

@sindresorhus Big congrats on bringing Scratchpad to life! 🚀

@sindresorhus congrats, love that - can't believe how many little apps you made, so cool!

@sindresorhus Congrats on the launch! I love your opinionated and minimal aesthetic. I understand why you want to keep the feature set tight, everyone starts throwing in with this and that feature they want – then you have some Swiss Army knife app like Drafts! (My personal go to for all the above and more, sometimes use Apple Notes Quick note.) Anyway, highly competitive market for sure. I see you’ve mentioned plans for a separate app that supports markdown, this would be the one required ‘feature’ for me so maybe consider combining this in Scratchpad?

Loving Scratchpad, @sindresorhus! The always-accessible note feature is perfect for capturing those sudden bursts of inspiration. The plain text focus keeps it clean and straightforward. Do you have any plans to add keyboard shortcuts for faster note-taking?
Sindre Sorhus
@renchu_song On macOS, it already has support for toggling the window with a global keyboard shortcut. What else are you looking for?
Cedric
Interesting idea but have you thought about how it stands out from other note-taking apps, not sure plain text alone cuts it nowadays, what about adding some basic formatting options or cloud sync for more accessibility
Sindre Sorhus
@pevcpro17 The app isn't meant to replace your full-featured notes app—it's meant to complement it. It's not for permanent notes, but rather a place to quickly jot down something. It already supports cloud sync.

This look great. Congrats on your launch 🚀 . But just a quick one, what’s the major catch that’d make me switch from using my default notes app or existing alternatives?🤔

@sindresorhus that makes sense. Congrats once again

Hey Sindre, Since it's plain text only, do you plan to keep it that way, or could there be some minimal formatting options in the future? Congrats on the launch!
Sindre Sorhus
@kyrylosilin I plan to keep it plain text only, but I may add some way that makes it easy to create checklists.

Hey there! Scratchpad sounds like the perfect solution for quick and secure text editing. ✍️ The simplicity and plain-text focus are exactly what I've been looking for to handle comments and brainstorms without the bloat of full-featured note apps. Love the idea of launching widgets for quick access too! Quick question: How do you see Scratchpad evolving with these new features, and do you have any plans for cloud sync or backup options to ensure text safety? Downloading it now to try it out—thanks for offering it for free during the launch phase! 🚀@sindresorhus
Sindre Sorhus
@tony_creator It already supports iCloud sync. Automatic backup feature is included in the latest update.
