Scantic started as a stupid summer project. I wanted to train a Gaussian Splat on my MacBook for the first time and the run took 3.5 hours using the usual apps. The laptop got so hot that I ended up balancing it on a Ziploc bag filled with cold water. That sent me down a rabbit hole: huw much faster could I make the whole pipeline if I really questioned every part of it? A few weeks later, the same kind of processing was running directly on my iPhone without LiDAR, no cloud, and the 3D Scan finished processing in less than a minute! At some point I realized this was becoming more than an experiment, so I turned it into a product: Scantic. The app is free for now. I mainly want people to try it, scan stuff, and tell me what they think.
