Hi Product Hunt — I built Say after noticing that “downloaded” does not always mean every translation feature will work when the signal disappears. Say checks translation, speech input, voice playback, phrasebook content, and phonetics separately. The goal is simple: let travelers find the gaps while they can still fix them, not after they arrive. Say is completely free, requires no account, and has no ads, analytics, tracking, purchases, or data collection. This is the public beta, so I’m especially interested in: - Which language pairs and devices you test - Whether the readiness screen is clear - What works or fails in Airplane Mode - Any point where the app slows you down You can install the beta through TestFlight and share feedback through TestFlight or the Discord community. finally a translator that doesn't pretend a downloaded pack is ready when only half of it actually works offline. love the per feature readiness check, feels like the first one built by someone who actually got stranded in a foreign country.

@delia_ricardo Thank you for your comment. There was a bug with voice, and it's been fixed and updated in TestFlight. We have a lot more in store coming up as far as new features things like two-way conversations real-time conversations. That's all in the roadmap. But currently, we just want testers to test what we have.

What do you need from a translator when the signal disappears?

I m launching Say today: a free, private iPhone translator and phrasebook designed for travel when connectivity is unreliable.

The problem I wanted to solve wasn t simply translation. It was uncertainty. An app might say a language is downloaded, but that doesn t necessarily tell you whether translation, speech input, voice playback, phrasebook content, and phonetics will all work offline.

Say checks those capabilities separately, so travelers can find gaps before leaving.
