Following up on the title, because "then what?" is the part almost nobody talks about.
First, why this keeps mattering more every month. ChatGPT crossed a billion monthly users by mid-2026, and AI referral traffic to US retail sites jumped nearly 700% year over year over the last holiday season. At the same time, roughly 68% of US Google searches now end without a click, and that climbs to 80 to 83% when an AI Overview shows up. The answer has become the destination. If you are not inside it, you are invisible for that query.
Here is the uncomfortable part, and the reason tracking alone is not enough:
AI visibility is not SEO. In under a year, the share of AI citations going to the top 10 organic results dropped from 76% to 38%. You can rank #1 on Google and still be missing from the answer, because the models pull from a different set of sources than the ones you optimized for.
The engines disagree wildly. Recent data found the same brand's citation volume can vary by up to 615x from one platform to another. A tool that hands you a single score hides where you are actually losing.
Knowing you are invisible does not fix it. This is the whole "then what." A dashboard measures the gap. It does not close it.
