Hey guys, We started Salemaker in December 2023 because when we were running an automation agency we struggled to get initial clients with cold outreach, so we tried sending looms which worked well but was very time-consuming, so we decided to automate it. Salemaker is a bootstrap team of 3 indiehackers who all have full-time day jobs - Shannon, Marc, and Michael (me). As in the description it's a video personalization AI that clones your face & voice, generates landing pages with your brand, tracks analytics, can even do enrichment (scraping) of your leads website and has API & Zapier integrations. I want to share something useful for other founders in this comment and that is the main 3 mistakes we made when building this product. 1. Severely underestimate the scope. Salemaker requires a lot of work on the integration side, user education, and baseline features to be competitive with existing solutions. We didn't have enough experience to foresee this, otherwise, we'd pick something easier. 2. We should've started just as a Zap and focused 80% of our energy on integrations and partnerships. The front end ate so much time because it's a fairly big SaaS and had very low ROI because our main customers were all API users. 3. We didn't position correctly. Salemaker is still pretty generic. We thought we'd sense the pull based on usage but the truth is this is a sales-led growth product that requires a lot of qualification, a lot of inbound content to build domain authority, and a lot of partnerships. -------- Our main differentiation from other tools is more robust pricing (we charge per personalized variable rather than per minute), with no limits on how many variables you can use, and an enrichment system. Our short-term vision is to create more engaging videos by leveraging AI web agents to interact with websites creating hyper-personalized valuable videos like our LinkedIn Profile Audit example. We are experimenting with Claude Computer Use and OpenAIs Operator (when it will come out ~ January).
