SafeUs is different because it turns community members into a real-time safety network. Anyone can create an alert, and everyone within a 15-mile radius is notified instantly. Each alert includes live chat, allowing people nearby to share updates and confirm information. A live safety map, quick alert creation, and a privacy-first design make SafeUs fast, simple, and focused on early awareness rather than delayed reports.

When I first thought about this problem, I realized the biggest gap wasn’t a lack of information—it was a lack of timely and local information. People often hear about incidents too late, and even when someone nearby knows what’s happening, there isn’t a simple way to notify others around them quickly.
So I approached the solution with three priorities in mind: speed, simplicity, and community participation. The app was designed so anyone can create an alert in just a few steps, and once it’s created, everyone within about a 15-mile radius is notified instantly. That ensures information reaches the people who are most likely to be affected.
Another important part of solving this was making alerts more than just notifications. Each alert includes real-time chat, so people nearby can share updates, confirm details, or add context as situations develop. This helps improve clarity and makes the information more useful.
I also focused on keeping the experience simple and privacy-focused, so location is used only to deliver nearby alerts and users stay in control of their data.
I’m still learning and improving the product, so I’d genuinely value feedback—what would you expect from a community-driven safety app like this to make it truly useful in everyday life?
