When someone asks for a photo of your passport or driver license, that copy can end up somewhere you never meant it to. Last week, millions of driver’s license scans tied to a big-company ID-check vendor were reportedly put up for sale. Saferlayer stamps yours with a watermark much harder to remove than a normal one, even with AI. Runs in your browser. Nothing uploads. Free to start. Pro adds PDFs, batch, and unique traceable copies. API for companies protecting stored files.
Hey Product Hunt,
I’m Carlos from Bytelantic. We built Saferlayer for a moment everyone hates: someone asks for a scan of your ID, and you don’t want that photo living forever in someone else’s inbox or database.
That risk isn’t theoretical. Just last week, reports said roughly 153 million U.S. and Canadian driver’s license scans (plus millions of other IDs) were offered for sale after they flowed through an identity-verification vendor used by large companies. When you email an unmarked scan, you’re trusting every system that touches it.
Ordinary watermarks get scrubbed by today’s AI tools pretty easily. Saferlayer layers several techniques so removal is much harder, and your file never leaves your device. Processing happens in the browser. There’s nothing to upload.
What’s in it today:
• Watermarks that are tough to remove, even with AI
• Redact fields the recipient doesn’t need
• Works offline once installed
• Free to use. Pro ($4.99/mo) adds PDFs, batch, and unique copies: up to 20 versions of a confidential PDF, each with its own identifier in the watermark, so if one leaks you know which copy it came from
• Enterprise API for companies that want to protect documents sitting on their servers
Would love feedback from anyone who’s shared an ID online and regretted it. What’s still missing for you?

I used Saferlayer in the past and it works great, the best you can do to protect your ID docs, and all working directly on your browser.
