Hi Product Hunt! I'm the maker of Resume Builder.
I built this because the current landscape of resume tools feels incredibly predatory. You spend an hour entering all your information, getting the layout and design just right, and when you finally click "Download", you're hit with a $15/month subscription paywall. I found this so frustrating that I decided to solve the problem myself.
Here's how this tool is different:
* It's actually free: No paywalls, no hidden premium templates, no watermarks.
* Total Privacy: There is no database. Your personal data never leaves your device and is stored locally in your browser.
* ATS-Friendly: The PDFs are rendered via React-PDF, ensuring the text is selectable and fully readable by Applicant Tracking Systems.
* Customization: Granular typography controls, layout spacing, and unlimited custom hex colors to match your personal brand.
* Desktop App: I also just shipped v0.5.0, which includes standalone offline Windows executables if you prefer a native app experience!
It's completely open-source (built with Next.js, React, and TailwindCSS). I would absolutely love to hear your feedback, bug reports, or feature requests!

Running entirely in the browser is a really thoughtful touch, especially for privacy. One thing that would make it even more useful is adding a built-in option to import an existing resume from PDF or Word and auto-fill the fields, since rewriting a resume from scratch is often the biggest barrier when someone switches tools.

Finally tried this out and the local-only aspect won me over, my data never leaves the browser which is a huge plus. The live preview while tweaking typography made it feel way less painful than other builders I have used.

Love that this is fully offline and free, the typography controls are a dream. One thing that would make it even better is adding a built-in ATS score checker that flags common issues like missing action verbs or overly long paragraphs before you export the PDF.

Local-only PDF export with the side-by-side preview is a really nice touch, makes tweaking font sizes way less guesswork. Glad it's open source too.
