Hi Product Hunt, I'm Tony. I built Rekody because dictation on the Mac kept pushing me toward a subscription and someone else's servers, and neither felt necessary for something my computer can do by itself. Rekody is free. You hold Option + Space, talk, and the words land at your cursor in whatever app you are in. Transcription runs on-device by default. No account, no subscription, and there is no Rekody server your audio could be sent to. Two parts I care about most. The personal dictionary: you add your names, jargon, and product terms once, and Rekody biases the speech engines toward them, so your words come out spelled your way. And rekody review: a local page where you play back what you dictated, fix transcripts, and keep your own dataset clean, with an optional Whisper large-v3 second opinion. Great for fine-tuning the ASR model to understand your nuances like accents. The CLI is open source under MIT. The Mac app is free, no strings. An iPhone keyboard is in TestFlight beta. I would like feedback on accuracy with your vocabulary, and on what the dictionary gets wrong. I will be here all day.

@kenisolopreneur thank you and yes we will. if you switch the model to Whisper it will transcribe to Japanese. we also support you using any open source ASR model that you prefer as well.

@kenisolopreneur i hear you. i built this from similar frustrations too. i started with the CLI version of the app and it still works very well too then built the mac app and now mobile then windows.

Your voice might be the most personal data you have. Why do dictation apps ship it to a server?

Here's a test for whatever dictation tool you use: turn off Wi-Fi and try to dictate a sentence. Most of the popular ones go silent, because your voice is being processed on someone else's server.

That always bothered me. Your voice is about as personal as data gets. It carries what you're writing, who you are, and these days it can even be cloned. I didn't want a subscription tool streaming it off my Mac just to type for me.
