Bilaal Rashid
šŸ™ƒ My name is Bilaal, and I'm thrilled to be introducing you to ReadBeeb - a better BBC News client for iOS. šŸ’Æ When Version 7 of the OEM BBC News app was launched, the design of the app was ruinedand made it became a lot harder to discover and read the news. Access to quality journalism is a critical part of democracy and the state-owned media organisation was drastically letting down the British taxpayers that fund it. šŸ•“ Over the past year, I set out to change this by building my own mobile client which rights these wrongs. ā© ReadBeeb pays homage to the old version of the app, whilst attempting to remain modern, slick, fast and accessible for power users. šŸ“° Easily view all the top stories of the day, as curated by the BBC News editors. šŸ“± Experience a personal feed of topics you subscribe to, displayed in reverse chronological order. This is something the inept BBC decided to kill off. šŸ“ˆ Discover the trending articles and topics on BBC News. šŸŽ„ Prefer video? We have a dedicated tab to that too. Again something the BBC don't want you to have access to. šŸŒ Based abroad? We support access to all of the BBC's international services: English, Cymru, Arabic, Hindi, Mundo and Russian. 🌐 Sick of the BBC just displaying in-app web views for loads of articles? ReadBeeb attempts to fix that too (experimental). ☯ Love dark mode? We fully support it throughout the app, including with our app icons. šŸ›”ļø Your privacy is protected throughout. No analytics are sent to me or the BBC. Plus you don't need to log in with a BBC account to access the app. (Again something the BBC can't do). šŸ”„ And most importantly, the whole project is completely free and open-souce. Fork and contribute as much as you'd like. Check it out in GitHub today! šŸ¤– I'd love to hear your thoughts on ReadBeeb, so please comment below and let us know what you think! In particular, I think it's time to rethink the UI as we start planning support for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV. 🫶 Thank you for your endless support!
