Quell is an immersive fitness game where players get fit fighting their way through a rich fantasy world. Our lightweight wearable uses smart resistance bands to provide an exciting, high-intensity combat workout at home.
Really cool idea to gamify a home workout. Apart from the resistance bands and controller, will players need any other gear or requirements to make this work?
@ericahal All you need is a PC/Mac or tablet/mobile device to play. You can also link to your TV for the big-screen experience.

Looks like something with real potential to motivate - hope you make the GBP 2,000,000 stretch, because everyone needs a little leg day action.
(Silliness aside, ?makers, should the leg stuff materialize, likely a separate purchase on top of whatever backer reward level one chipped in at?)
@murchadh thanks for the question! We’re committed to providing all stretch goals to all backers at no extra cost. We can do this because of the decrease in manufacturing cost with higher volumes. Rather than pocket the extra profit, we want to make Quell even better for everyone who has supported us.

Given the concern with violent video games played via a control, have y'all studied the implications of actually acting out violence? Are there analogous studies that would speak to this question with regards to boxing?
Hello Product Hunt, and a big thanks to @katmanalac from PH for all your help!
We started Quell because for us, exercise wasn’t fun; it was work. As passionate gamers, we loved the idea of gamifying fitness, but every fitness game we played seemed to fall short on either the game or the exercise. We believed that if we could get both right, we could make exercise something people like us looked forward to. We went with boxing to appeal to people who wanted a more intense and cathartic experience. These players wanted to feel the satisfaction of throwing a real punch but didn’t want the hassle of a punchbag, so we set out to create a wireless, lightweight wearable to replicate that feeling.
Three months ago, we got funded by Y Combinator, left our jobs and moved the whole team into my apartment. We bought a 3D printer, a sewing machine and an array of electronics and textiles. We spent all day every day looping through talking to users, collating insights, designing, and prototyping. It’s been the best experience of our lives.
Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve finished a full, working prototype of the game and wearable, and are now live on Kickstarter! We wanted to launch on Product Hunt as early as possible to give you access to our early-bird prices, which are more than 30% off MSRP.
Here’s a brief overview of Quell’s best features:
- Effective: Early testing shows that Quell burns more calories than running or spinning.
- Hassle-free: Start in under a minute, without worrying about bad weather, travel time, sharing equipment, and planning your workout.
- Personalised: Each fight guides players through a fun, rigorous workout tailored to their fitness goals.
- Replayable: Quell features hundreds of enemies with a massive range of combat styles, daily quests, events, and a massive range of rewards.
- Rewarding: Unlock new in-game gauntlets and gain access to ever-more powerful moves and skills.
We’d love to hear what Product Hunt thinks! We want to make the game you want to play, so please let us know what you’d like to see in the comments.

FitXr is the killer oculus app for this. Incredibly powerful experience of air boxing training with other members. It’s like you are in your own gym.
@aakash_barot Thanks for the comment! We think FitXR is awesome. Quell is distinct in that we add resistance to punches, which makes it effective in training both fitness and strength (and adds the satisfying feeling of a real punch). We also moved away from VR early in the design process, as our target users felt that exercising in VR was too sweaty and uncomfortable to be appealing.
@kay0stheory Cheers for checking us out! I'm a keen Quest user myself, but we went for the non-VR approach based on negative perceptions of VR exercise in our interview phase. Having said that, we do think VR is the future of fitness and we want to be there when it gets there!

So glad that finally there's an interactive training option with resistance. Other stuff like Wii boxing mean injured and worn out joints. Looks expensive though :P
