From the App Store description:
"playdo.pe is a hidden urban social network of familiar strangers. It combines location, interests, social connections, and real time games to create the meeting place of the future."
Is it just me or are there more apps focused on location-based, hyper local social connections (Popcorn Messaging cc @Popcorn_Ryan, Whisper, Noaw cc @SoleneMa).
What are you thoughts on this, @thenewb?
@rrhoover
Yes there are more apps in the hyperlocal social space. Highlight is also one. Part of what's different with playdope is the fact that it's ambient (runs in the background to keep everyone's list of the 7 nearest people current) and it uses real-time games as a means of breaking the ice.
I wouldn't put anything that's a stream limited to city-level ( e.g. Whisper, Tinder, etc) in the hyperlocal category.
Good point. Whisper and Tinder aren't so "hyper" local. :)
Of course, the big challenge with these type of products is building a network effect. How are you planning to expand beyond NY, @thenewb?
