PlacePod transcribes audio & video and generates subtitles (.srt) entirely on-device — no cloud, no uploads. 13 languages with offline translation. It also doubles as a beautiful clock with a hidden, encrypted file vault. Your voice and files never leave your phone.
I'm a solo developer from Japan running a one-person app studio, and this is my very first launch here. Excited (and honestly, a little nervous)!
Why I built PlacePod
Every transcription app I tried sent my audio to someone's server. Meeting recordings, personal voice memos, interviews — all uploaded to a cloud I couldn't see. That always felt wrong to me.
So I built PlacePod to do everything on-device:
🎙️ One-tap transcription for audio & video 📝 Auto-generated subtitle files (.srt) — ready for video editing 🌍 13 languages, with translation that works fully offline 🔒 Zero uploads. Your voice never leaves your phone.
The fun part
PlacePod disguises itself as a beautiful clock app. Behind the clock is an encrypted file vault — unlock with PIN, biometrics, or even your location. If someone tries to break in, it silently snaps a photo of them 📸
(Fun fact: the photorealistic clock faces were generated with ChatGPT. When you're a one-person studio, AI is your art department.)
Built with: Flutter for iOS & Android from one codebase, Claude Code as my pair programmer, and ChatGPT as my design team. Solo development doesn't feel so solo anymore.
Design, code, marketing — it's all just me, so your feedback genuinely shapes what I build next. I'd love to hear:
What would you use on-device transcription for?
Which languages should I prioritize next?
I'll be here all day answering every comment. Thanks for checking out PlacePod! 🙏
