Hi there! I'm Andreas, the developer of Ping Path. I develop tech that empowers people to live healthier or be more productive, Ping Path is core to this mission as it helps visually impaired people more easily navigate life. Ping Path has three core features... Querying People can effortlessly ask Siri or use speech to text to ask about the world around them. q: "Where is the jacket?" a: "On the chair to the left", q: "What is the person wearing?", a: "A red shirt" Captioning Press caption the scene or ask Siri to describe what's around you and Ping Path will describe the environment plus transcribe any text it finds. Path finding For devices with LiDAR, Ping Path can help find objects and avoid obstacles. The app provides verbal and spatial audio based directions (audio changes direction when you need to turn or the volume increases as you get closer to the destination) For those without visual impairment, you can help others who may not have the ability to navigate the world like you do, so we need your help... In a future update, anyone can create public maps with a LiDAR enabled device so that people with visual impairments can access public places such as stores, malls, and schools with path finding even without a device with LiDAR.

This is such a cool product! Kind of feels like something out of science fiction. What inspired you to create it?

@mikeyoung44 Thank you! Originally I wanted to develop cool tech that helps people, but later in development I met a friend at my school who is visually impaired and he inspired me to drive the product to the finish line!

Reminds me of Be My Eyes, a human-powered solution to a similar problem from many years ago.
Andreas Ink
@rrhoover hey! Be My Eyes has done incredible work in the field of visual impairment support. Ping Path takes a few more steps to automate a solution (not the only solution) to the problem. This leads to on-demand access, therefore, further support for the visually impaired (Be My Eyes has recently moved towards this too with GPT4). I believe these advancements complement and expand upon existing solutions in a meaningful way.
