Pic-O

A simple, elegant, and self-hosted photo publishing platform

Pic-O is a simple, elegant, and self-hosted photo publishing platform designed for photographers, families, and self-hosters who want an easy way to organize and share their photo collections without the complexity or overhead of full-fledged photo management suites. Modern gallery tools often aim to do too much: commenting, device syncing, editing, and even AI retouching. Pic-O focuses on doing one thing exceptionally well: Make your photo archives effortlessly viewable and shareable.

Given the limitations of Synology Photo Station and Synology Moments (both in performance and features), I started to try out several alternatives like PhotoPrism and PhotoView on my NAS. All of them appeared to have several drawbacks like the inability to handle large photo archive or lacking simple features like setting album covers. As tried out applications were not able to overcome these limitations (not a priority or no clear solution), I decided to build my own platform focusing on the basic needs of self-hosters. The result is Pic-O. After three months of development, I’ve been using it myself for over a month to share thousands of images with family and friends. The current release covers all the basics to get started, and I have a few extra features planned for future updates (see GitHub). I’d love any feedback or bug reports to make it even better!
