Hey everyone! 👋
I built pdfonl9 because I honestly got paranoid about uploading my own tax returns and business contracts to random "free" PDF websites. Even when they promise to delete your data, you never really know where it's going.
I just wanted a quick web tool to handle my PDFs without the privacy anxiety, and without having to download clunky desktop software.
So, I built this full suite to run 100% client-side. Your files literally never leave your device. Here is everything you can do with it right now:
Merge PDF: Combine multiple PDF files into one document.
Organize PDF Pages: Drag, drop, rotate, reorder, or delete specific pages using visual thumbnails.
Compress PDF: Reduce PDF file size by recompressing embedded images while keeping text, fonts, and vectors intact.
Split PDF: Extract specific page ranges or split a document into individual single-page files.
PDF to JPG / PNG: Convert pages to high-quality JPGs where you choose your DPI, or convert to lossless PNG images with transparency support.
JPG to PDF: Convert JPG and PNG images into a PDF document, complete with custom page sizes, orientations, and margins.
PDF to Word: Get a real, editable Word document, not text pinned in place. Headings, lists, tables, two-column layouts, headers, footers, footnotes and images come back as proper Word features, with lines breaking where they did in the PDF. Forms like the IRS W-4 are rebuilt exactly, with every piece of text still editable.
PDF to Excel: Pull the tables out of a PDF into a spreadsheet. Numbers, percentages, currency and dates become real values you can sum and sort, headers and merged cells are kept, and tables that run across pages are joined into one sheet.
OCR for scanned PDFs: Both converters can read scanned pages, in 16 languages. The text recognition runs on your device too: nothing gets uploaded, even for OCR.
The entire project was built with Claude Code using Astro (which was a wild experience on its own!). To make sure it could handle heavy documents without freezing your browser tab, it uses WebAssembly and background Web Workers to crunch the files locally at near-native speeds.
Since I don't have to pay for backend servers to process your documents, there are no paywalls, no sign-ups, and no file size limits. Once the page loads, it even works entirely offline.
I'd love for you to try breaking it. Throw your biggest, most annoying PDFs at it and let me know how it handles them.
I'll be hanging out in the comments all day. Let me know what other features you'd want to see run purely locally, or if you want to chat about what it was like building this with Claude!
