Like so many of you, we at Overlap (YC S24) love podcasts. Our CEO Jonathan’s favorite podcast has long been Acquired, Casey’s is Impaulsive (how Gen Z) and mine is Freakonomics.
But these days, more and more people are engaging with podcasts in new ways:

🕵️Through topic-based searches instead of via subscriptions

@kjosephabraham ah good q! Here’s the name origin: For any topic on Overlap, overlapping voices and clips come together from different podcasts to make one playlist.
@a_zelenkov Great callout. Users can generate their own playlists and share them with anyone but not yet in-app. Some kind of feed to see what kind of playlists people are generating could be very interesitng.
This is a really interesting approach to podcasts, Overlap seems to hit the nail on the head in terms of future user engagement! I'm curious about the AI behind the curation process. How do you ensure the quality and relevance of the clips? Also, will there be options for user-generated playlists or community suggestions? Excited to see how this evolves. @marygarcia Our CTO and resident genius @caseytraina has all the details, but at a high-level we run podcast transcripts through a multi-step LLM flow. Each step has its own hyper-tailored prompts and objectives -- and it all fits together to find the best moments in long episodes.
Hey @buzz_rubenstein I'm not the biggest podcast listener, I only listen when I'm traveling, so this is perfect for extracting the key takeaways from different topics. Love it 👏🏻
