Me, every day: - Phone is dying - Plugs phone into laptop - iTunes opens - No, no, no, no, nooooo - Quits iTunes Thanks @krausefx for making this. 🙏
Adam Davies
@jackdweck was looking for the option in iTunes to stop this the other day. Have they taken it out? If so this will be awesome 👏
Lasse R
@jackdweck have you not disabled it? 😬
Jack Dweck
@lasserafn @adammydesign @bentossell you can definitely disable it from opening when you plug your phone in, but there are many more reasons for iTunes to accidentally launch (written by @krausefx): - You click play/pause while listening to a web-based music player (e.g. SoundCloud) - You launch iTunes by clicking on the icon by mistake - Someone sent you a link to an iOS app - You click on a link on the web, and didn't expect it to be an Music link - You open a file in Finder, and forgot to change the default app to VLC

@nivo0o0 All I see in this picture are kinder chocolates 😍🍫

@markoxvee cannot focus on anything else once you pointed it out.

@markoxvee @nivo0o0 That's because they are the only thing of any use in the video. Nom nom nom.

Do you realise that this behaviour can still be disabled in iTunes? Apparently, the description has been changed to "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected". I have it unchecked for all my devices and iTunes never launches when I plug in for a charge. So yes, "Overkill" is probably a pretty appropriate name TBH. :-) Perhaps "I Forgot to Google It" is more appropriate.

@frassmith Check out the description of the project, there are so many more reasons why iTunes would launch: - You connect an iPhone or iPad to your Mac - You click play/pause while listening to a web-based music player (e.g. SoundCloud) - You launch iTunes by clicking on the icon by mistake - Someone sent you a link to an iOS app - You click on a link on the web, and didn't expect it to be an Music link - You updated iTunes - You open a file in Finder, and forgot to change the default app to VLC

@krausefx Thanks, yes, I did notice those later.

@productHunt You've been trolled surely.

@frassmith @producthunt you seem to be taking this product too seriously... Yes, it's an option in iTunes, it's more about making fun of the absurdity of iTunes opening up every time than adjusting the settings :)
Elliot Ronen
@nivo0o0 @frassmith @producthunt If this is supposed to be a community of product people, then we should understand that we're not the intended audience for this default behavior. There's a very good chance that your average iPhone and Mac buyer appreciates that the program they use to sync their phone with their computer opens when their phone is plugged in and they don't have to remember what it is, search around the Applications folder and find it every time. If this were "Power User Hunt" then I'd understand wanting to poke fun at the default behavior as being annoying. But when Apple explicitly went out of their way to include the option to turn it off, your needs as a power user are already catered to. And for the record: I use iTunes as my main music application and I still have it set not to open automatically when I plug in my phone.
Fraser Smith
Oh, right, I didn't realise. Maybe you're taking me too seriously. :-)

@elliotronen @nivo0o0 @producthunt I agree. If anything (as I've already said elsewhere this evening), this is actually a reflection of Apple's failure. By changing the text of the option, users lost sight of the functionality that the option provided and started looking for solutions to a problem that never existed. I agree, though, auto launching when I hit play on the function bar still sucks, even if it can be disabled in settings too.

Seems useless.. you can prevent it from opening in the settings

This is absolutely not something for which you need extra software running on your machine. This is the first time I wish I could down vote something on Product Hunt.
Felix Krause
@elliotronen You're a 100% correct, just use ``` while true; do; pkill iTunes; sleep 1; done ``` in your terminal :)
Lisa Marie Obrotka
@krausefx or just go into iTunes settings and UNCHECK that square box that says "launch iTunes when device is connected" BAM! No more iTunes on plug in. lol. Keep trying bud.
