Outside is an iOS app that helps you get the most out of life and spend more time with the people you care about. Add your countdown widget to look forward to events and share your calendar with friends to find time to spend together.
👋 Hey Product hunters!
I'm Blake and I'm excited to share Outside with you today - it's an iOS app designed to help feel excited about the future!
Outside started from a frustration Ryan and I had. It felt like our apps were eating away our time and did not feel like they did much keep us excited about the future. The tools we had for personal organisation felt too clinical and to make time with friends was still overly manual and essentially just lots of group chats. We had enough - and it looks people felt our pain too with over 400,000 added events on Outside this year so far!
It’s an app where you can add events in your life you’re excited about and they’ll be displayed beautifully in app, on a map and on your own countdown widget with lots of styles to choose. Life get’s busy, we know that and we’ve found we need something to look forward to in order to stay motivated. Outside’s your app to help you do that.
Example use cases:
🏖️ Look forward to vacation🧑🧑🧒🧒 Family weekend breaks👫 Date night with partner👯♀️Reunion with friends
To save you time, you can connect your calendars and make the events you’re excited about look much more engaging. Any event going on in your life like a vacation, moving out or a reunion with friends can be personalized just the way you like to match the occasion.
We believe that memories and experiences help us live better happier lives. Our goal is to help you have more of them and also to have them with the people you care about most. Every event on Outside can be turned social by inviting your friends/family or a partner. Start planning together, use your own private group chat and get shared reminders so nobody forgets to show up.
To help you figure out who’s free when, there’s a shared calendar where at a glance you can tell who’s free. Saving you time with the back and forth in dm’s seeing who’s free. We’ve heard from families, couples and friend groups that this has been a game changer for them. Less admin and more time together!
Outside is a tool for your own personal productivity but also a social tool with the people that matter most. You can use it solo or with other people.

@dash4u Yes so it syncs with any supported calendars by Apple. This means you do not need to login via Google, although it's something we want to support in the future. eg I use calendar sync with my Apple personal emails and then work Google ones.

Outside offers a unique approach to event planning and organization, combining personal calendars with social features. The focus on creating anticipation and excitement for future events is a refreshing perspective.
Here are some questions for further understanding:
- How does Outside plan to generate revenue? Will there be a freemium model with limited features or a subscription-based approach?
- How does Outside ensure the privacy of user data, especially when sharing calendars and events with others?
- Are there plans to integrate with other popular calendar or productivity apps?
Potential for Collaboration:
As a developer with experience in calendar applications and social features, I'm interested in how Outside's technology is built. Here are some potential areas for collaboration:
- Expanding Outside to other platforms like Android or web-based applications.
- Developing features like event recommendations or intelligent scheduling assistants.
- Enhancing the platform's security measures to protect user data.
Outside has the potential to become a popular tool for individuals and groups looking to better organize their lives and create memorable experiences.
@kjosephabraham Thanks a lot. So it mostly originated because we felt like most products wanted us to stay inside literally and did not try to change that. We chose the name Outside because we felt like it matches what we think is important. To get outside, not just in the outdoors but off the couch and really living. Doing things in the real world, with real people.
@max_savonin1 Appreciate the comment and thanks for the questions.
- We have a subscription where we generate our revenue called Premium.
- So when calendars are shared with people your events stay private and are labelled as "busy"
- We'd love to connect with more calendars and apps, curious which matter most to you.
Thanks a lot for the suggestions and taking the time. Hope you try the app out and let me know what you think!

Love the count down timer! I used to have that set up for important anniversaries and dates - but the app doesn't connect with my calendar, so I stopped using it.
This is much more than just the countdown - lots of group functionalities too. Love the name. Spend less time inside the app, but more outside with your important ones. The AI planner could be helpful as well.
For me personally, I think the hardest part is piecing together all the tools. For example, a lot of chat is gonna happen in Whatsapp or Message, I wonder if somehow the app can seemlessly work to streamline everything. Not sure if I can get my friends to download this app, so maybe there is a way for me to invite them and they add this app as a mini app? Not sure, but def lots of potential there!
My fave part is your "premium" page - the upgrade, the trial timeline, and expectation is well set. Textbook case study for growth.design!
Congrats on the launch @blakefolgado and team!
This is such a beautifully simple concept. I enjoy asking friends the question: "What are you looking forward to?", and I feel like this is a really lovely way of showcasing an answer to this each day.
@adamschroder Thats great to hear you do that. We all need something to look forward to. The future's got to be exciting! Thank you for the support!

Interesting idea with the synced calendars. How has reception of that feature been so far?
I thought of building something very similar not too long ago, but when I asked around a little, people seemed concerned that trust is a big issue when syncing a calendar; for work in particular, but privately too.
Anyhow, looks like a really cool product, I'd like to try the synced calendar out for sure
@tom_osterlund It's been really good I'd say. The feature started from users asking for it. And I'd say there's been less concern on a privacy side I'd say from users. For she shared calendar it is important to them that events do not show people what they are doing so instead they are marked as "busy".
Would love to hear what you think after trying it out!
Congratulations with the launch! I really like the idea of your app, it should make easier to plan activities with friends and family. Could you please explain me how works memory feature, does it have an integration with iPhone’s photo album?
@anastasia_dashkevich Thank you! Can't wait for you to try it out and share what you think. So at the moment memories are the events you'd done and you can pick a photo as part of the highlight. You can pick this photo from your iPhone photo library. In the future though we want to support much more as part of a memory, like an album of photos from the event.
Congrats on the launch @blakefolgado ! From the screenshots I can tell that it's a beautiful looking app. Any plans to launch for Android? Looking forward to seeing where this goes!
