OpenScience is an open-source AI agent for scientific research. It reads papers, writes and runs code, works in notebooks and a terminal, and sends long jobs to Modal, your own servers, or a Slurm/PBS cluster. Give it a metric and Autoresearch runs experiments, logs every one, and keeps hill-climbing. Use 30+ models through one wallet, sign in with ChatGPT, or run a local model. It ranks #1 on agentic scientific research benchmarks. Free and open source.

We integrated the NVIDIA BioNeMo toolkit so OpenScience agents can work directly with state-of-the-art biology models for protein and genomics research. For computational biologists, it's the most complete and well-supported stack out there, and it runs on the hardware most labs already have.

ModalThe serverless cloud infra for AI, ML, and data applications

Modal powers remote compute in OpenScience. When Autoresearch needs a GPU, it spins one up on Modal in seconds, runs the experiment, and shuts it down, so users only pay for what they use. We looked at the big clouds, but nothing else let an agent go from code to a running GPU job this fast without us managing any infrastructure.
