What do you think? …

Hi everyone!

Co-hunting with @busmark_w_nika to share OpenCut. Its GitHub repo has seen some incredible growth lately, gaining over 17k stars in the last month, which seems to be a direct community response to CapCut's new terms of service update in June.

OpenCut offers a simple, powerful, and open-source alternative that puts user privacy first. It's a timeline-based editor that works across web, desktop, and mobile.

This whole situation is a classic example of the dilemma big companies face. In the AI era, the hunger for data and context is huge. But as a product scales, compliance often has to come before growth, creating a tough choice.

This also brings up a bigger question, especially with all the recent copyright lawsuits against AI companies. What do you think is the right balance?

I've seen this X post and am a bit disappointed/afraid of whatĀ CapCut is about. Especially when I am a paying user, so this product sparked my interest.

OpenCut seems like a great open-source alternative to CapCut, especially with no watermarks or subscriptions and a focus on privacy. The cross-platform support for web, desktop, and mobile is a big plus. I’d be interested to try it out when I have some editing to do. Congrats on the launch šŸš€
