Fantastic as my 2nd brain. It's my 1st try at keeping everything in one place, but it works beautifully even taking into account the steep learning curve. It's worth the trade-offs for such a complex app with hundreds of community developed plugins that cover every half-met need I didn't know I had.

Very simple to start and has great plugins to go deeper and customize. I miss some more interactive visualizations (a more advanced version of their Canvas maybe), but even without it the product fully covers my needs. Using it almost daily for 6 months.

Before Obsidian, I was using Notion. I liked all the possibilities to edit and highlight information. But since Notion is not local, I had to wait for quite some time before my large notes would load. Then I got introduced to Obsidian, that stores all the notes locally. Combined with iCloud sync and a personal graph view, Obsidian became an irreplaceable tool in my daily life.

In a sea of note taking apps, Obsidian stands out from the rest by taking portability to heart and giving a first class interface to boot. The only downside is being limited to Markdown, and hacking solutions into it

Great , powerful for those who want to do all of their work in only markdown. If you're a coder and already use a text editor day and day out , you could do a lot in those tools too and might not need to invest in the learning curve here.

The fact that it's very fast to take notes (simple markdown format, Latex included…) and to retrieve quickly something (through the fuzzy filename matching, full-text search or tags). That it's possible to sync across various devices (with an excellent mobile app) is outstanding. The extension system is very helpful to supplement features. Also having an open file format is reassuring in case the creators stop updating the app.

Awesome writing app and note-making app, thanks to its use of plaintext files freely accessible on your file system, excellent UI design across platforms, full customization with CSS, and community plugins. You can use it as simply or as advanced as you'd like. Being closed source isn't a negative IMO since online functionality is opt-in, there's no format lock-in, and they now have third-party security audits.
