I built Nudge because I couldn't find anything that actually helped me start tasks — not manage them, just START them. As someone with ADHD, I know that frozen feeling all too well. Nudge uses AI to meet you where you are emotionally, break tasks into micro-steps, and give you a gentle push when your brain won't cooperate. One person built this. No team, no funding — just lived experience.

@amer_khalil I like that you're focusing on task initiation rather than task management—those are often treated as the same problem when they're not. How does Nudge adapt when someone repeatedly ignores or struggles with the suggested micro-steps, and what have you learned from real users about what actually gets them moving?
@nicole_hynek Thank you so much — and you are absolutely right as to why I built this App. Task initiation and task management are completely different problems and I realized that almost every app treats them the same way.
Here is my honest answer on the micro-steps — right now Nudge adapts through the 'mood check-in' at the start. If someone is consistently struggling, the AI Coach is there to break things down even further or just talk through the resistance.
What I've learned so far, and I am speaking from personal experience, is that most people don't need more structure — they need permission to start small without feeling like they're failing. Even completing one tiny step changes the momentum. For me personally that is the main struggle...even before I take the first step, in my mind I have already completed the task and already moving on to the next one.
This is still early and that's exactly the kind of feedback I'm building around. Would love to know — what does that moment of resistance look like for you personally?
@amer_khalil I really like that insight. The idea that people need permission to start small rather than more structure resonates a lot, and it feels like you're solving a genuinely different problem from traditional productivity apps.
For me, resistance usually looks like knowing exactly what I need to do but mentally inflating it into something much bigger than it is. I'll open my laptop intending to start, then suddenly convince myself I need more time, more energy, or more clarity before I can begin. The task itself isn't the problem—getting over that first minute is.
Awesome work on this!
@nicole_hynek Nicole, 'mentally inflating it into something much bigger than it is' — that is EXACTLY it. You just put into words what I've been trying to explain for months! And you're right, the task is never the problem, it's that first minute. If I could only tell everyone how many times I literally sat down and in my mind I have already finished teh project, but literally, I have not even written the first line on a piece of paper yet! That resistance you described is literally why I built Nudge. Not another structure, not another list — just help getting over that first minute. Thank you for this, honestly. Comments like yours remind me why I started building this in the first place.
Big update dropped today! 🎉 After two days of heads-down building, the Together tab is now fully functional — body doubling rooms with real-time presence, a 25-minute focus timer, auto-logout to keep rooms clean, and an extend session button so you never get kicked out mid-flow. On top of that, Nudge now has its own home at nudgeshift.com 🚀 A huge thank you to everyone who upvoted, commented, and supported the launch — your encouragement is what keeps a solo builder going. This is just the beginning. More coming soon! ⚡
To everyone who has upvoted and taken the time to engage today — thank you from the bottom of my heart. As a solo builder with ADHD who almost talked himself out of launching this a hundred times, your support means more than you know. 🙏
