Hey Product Hunt! Ryan here, founder of Nerd. We spent six years building on one belief: that shared passion connects people better than any profile ever could.
We built Nerd because profile-first social apps keep making the same mistake: they ask people to explain themselves before giving them a reason to care. Most of us don't meet our people through polished bios. We meet through shared taste, weird opinions, and tiny moments of overlap: a music take, a TV take, a sports debate, a fandom obsession.
So we turned that into the product. You answer two-choice Decks about the things you love, we surface the people who think most like you with an Overall Answer Match score, and the first conversation starts from something real instead of a blank chat box.
We are live on the App Store and Google Play today. 180+ users, 3,200+ Decks completed, 28,800+ questions answered, all organic, zero paid acquisition.

Is the goal to meet people "like you" online or is this intended to be something that leads to meeting up in person? I'm also curious if you have a matching for people that aren't "like you" but could be useful to connect with.
One example, I'm a developer and it'd be cool to meet some people who are in marketing to get ideas on marketing my apps. I'm not "like them" but would benefit from connecting with them.

'Is the goal to meet people "like you" online or is this intended to be something that leads to meeting up in person?' Definitely both, depending on your interests. If you've recently moved, started college, got a new job, are newly single, newly sober etc, you'd likely get value in filtering for close by connections to meet new friends IRL and immediately know what you do and don't have in common. You might also be at a multi day conference, business trip, or music festival and want to meet people to professionally or socially network with who are most like you. On the other hand, if you just love Star Wars and love answering/asking questions about Star Wars, you might find people from all over the world who would 'rather be a Sith than a jedi' or 'think the the Last Jedi is a great movie'. And it's just fun to interact with in chat.

To answer your question directly, users are listed in order of similarity score, so you could scroll down as far as you want down the line of users to find people less like you, but in your example of a programmer and a marketer, you as a programmer might consistently answer questions about your favorite books, your favorite band, your favorite business model, or anything besides programming and then meet someone who answers questions about all those other topics in this same way as you do, who happens to be a great marketer.

Jordan here, co-founder/CTO of Nerd. I’ve spent the last 2 years building the product and technical stack — everything from the Deck system and matching logic to gamification, chat, infrastructure, and the tooling we use to keep shipping quickly with a very small team.
The hardest part wasn’t just making the matching algorithm work. It was figuring out how to turn thousands of tiny preference signals into something that actually feels meaningful to a person — while keeping the experience lightweight and fun instead of making Nerd feel like a personality test.
A huge part of this project has also been experimenting with AI-native software development: using AI heavily across engineering, design iteration, QA testing, and internal workflows to let a tiny startup team operate with much more leverage than we otherwise could.
I’d especially love feedback from other builders here: Does the matching feel credible? Does the gamification add to the experience or distract from it? And from a product/technical perspective, what would you want to see us build next?
As COO I've watched this product evolve from concept to live in both stores. The engagement numbers from our early users genuinely surprised me. Excited to see what the PH community thinks
