I kept seeing the same thing when friends were house-hunting in Bengaluru: everyone relies on a broker's word, a WhatsApp forward, or a Sunday walk around the block to judge a neighbourhood — because nothing else exists. So I went looking for what actually is public: CPCB air quality data, UDISE school records, NCRB crime stats, municipal water data. Some of it turned out to be genuinely good (CPCB's real-time AQI). Some of it turned out to be badly broken — UDISE lists 61 schools within 2km of one Bengaluru locality and shows staffing data for zero of them. Rather than paper over those gaps, Neighbour Trust shows them. Every number on the site says where it came from and how old it is, and categories where the only real signal is local news coverage (crime, water, power) are explicitly labelled community-estimated rather than dressed up as official data.
