Enter your green card date and your trips abroad. The calculator shows the earliest date you can file Form N-400, counts your physical presence days, and flags trips that may have broken continuous residence. It handles the 5-year rule and the 3-year rule for spouses of US citizens. When a rule has two readings, it uses the stricter one, so an early filing doesn't cost you the non-refundable fee. Your dates never leave your browser.
Hi Product Hunt 👋
I kept seeing the same question on Reddit and immigration forums: "I took a long trip abroad, can I still file my N-400?" The answers in those threads often disagreed with each other, and people were guessing with a lot of money on the line. So I built a calculator that follows the USCIS rules and shows its sources.
The N-400 filing fee is non-refundable. If you file even one day too early, USCIS can reject the form and keep the money. Most online calculators only count days. They don't tell you which trips abroad might have broken your continuous residence.
A few things I did on purpose:
• Every rule links back to a USCIS source. I didn't guess any of them.
• When the law can be read two ways, the tool picks the reading that makes you wait longer.
• I tested it against USCIS's own worked examples. They're listed on the site at /test-cases.
• It runs fully in your browser. Your travel dates are never sent anywhere.
It's not legal advice and it's not a USCIS tool. If your case is complicated, talk to a lawyer.
I'd love to hear about edge cases it gets wrong.
