Torstein Skulbru

Hey Product Hunt! 👋

I'm Torstein, an iOS developer and dad to two non-verbal boys with special needs.

The problem we faced
My kids use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) - they point to pictures to tell us what they want. Visual routines also help them know what's happening throughout the day, which reduces anxiety and meltdowns.

The traditional approach? Finding images, printing, laminating, organizing into binders. It works, but it's exhausting. And when you leave the house, you can't bring everything.

Why I built MyVisualRoutine
After years of managing physical boards, I wanted something better. Something that:
- Works offline (no internet anxiety in waiting rooms)
- Keeps my data on-device (privacy matters with kids, especially when we take audio and video recordings)
- Is simple enough for grandparents and therapists to use
- Goes wherever we go

What it does
- Visual routines (morning, bedtime, school day)
- Choice boards for non-verbal communication
- First-then boards for transitions
- Day plans for predictability

Kids tap to complete activities. Parents customize with their own photos and voice recordings.

Pricing
Generous free tier with 50+ built-in activities. Premium at $9.99/month or $71.99/year (with 14-day free trial) unlocks custom photos, voice recordings, and unlimited boards.

Where we are
Just launched on iOS. This is version 1.0 - I have a roadmap based on what families actually need, including a
dedicated "kids mode" coming soon.

I built this because my family needed it. If your family does too, I'd love to hear from you.

Happy to answer any questions about the app, the tech stack (Flutter), or life as a special needs parent building tools for other families. 🙂
