You can't describe an animation to an AI in words. "Make it bouncier" is not a spec. Motiscope solves this a different way: you give it a screen recording, it measures the actual motion (the beat, the easing, the transforms) with ffmpeg, and hands your coding agent a spec it can rebuild from. Output targets are GSAP, CSS, Framer Motion, and Lottie. Free, open source, runs locally.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I kept wanting to rebuild animations I saw online, and I could never describe them to an LLM well enough to get them back. A screenshot loses the one thing that matters, which is timing. So I built motiscope. It measures the motion of an animation from a screen recording and gives your coding agent a real spec to rebuild it, as GSAP, CSS, Framer Motion, or Lottie. It's pure Python plus ffmpeg, runs locally, and it's MIT licensed. It ships as a Claude Code plugin, with portable skills for Codex and Cursor too. This started as a side project and recently crossed 90 stars on GitHub. Would genuinely love your feedback, and I'm around all day to answer anything.

super cool idea, the spec-from-video angle is genuinely useful. one thing that would make it even better for me: let me scrub through the recording and drop timestamped notes or visual references so the generated spec can capture things like "this specific frame should land exactly here" instead of only inferring from motion averages.
