Modulos

An ever changing desk for your ever changing needs

Modulos is a new concept of furniture, made to bring a fresh new take into the concept of a work surface. Fully made out of Croatian oak hard wood, each desk assembled has its own unique character provided by the material. But what makes it stand out is that you assemble your own surface, making it fully customizable to your needs and upgradeable.

What do you think? …

I totally love it! I admit the quality isn't the same, but I am used to Ikea prices, so this is pricey for me! 😞 I guess if it had adjustable legs, it would bring even more people (because of this sit-to-stand desks trend)
Matej Grozdanović
@akdm_ thanks, Anthony! We know people are used to IKEA prices, but we're aiming at a different type of a product. We want to produce the best possible quality and long-term value for Modulos owners, enabling them to treat their piece of furniture like a tech product, as much as furniture through upgrades, various add-ons etc. Just imagine - if you damage your desk, you don't need to buy a new one. Just order that module that's damaged! It's also made out of finest Croatian oak wood (renowned for its quality, durability and beauty), and we use some pretty cool approaches to building it (3D scanning test production modules to make sure the precision and quality is on point - check out the update I just attached above). We also plan to introduce a module line that will be made out of modern materials, however it would still be using only the best quality of material available. And the cool thing is all modules we release in the future will have to be compatible with older models - meaning no existing Modulos owner will be left hanging!

@matej_grozdanovic Yeah of course, I am totally with you. Durability + beauty + modules = perfect desk. I may consider backing this, but my bank account will not thank you at all 🙄 About the backward compatible modules, this is an awesome information you're giving me! As a developer, I like this way of thinking. :) Also, what about adjustable legs? Are you going to consider it for future upgrades?
Matej Grozdanović
@akdm_ yeah, we actually have ones in our office at my own old prototype desk for testing, and have been testing them for months now for durability, quality etc. We're very happy with them, however what I'm not happy with is the way they need to get attached - I want it to be an easier, smoother process. We'll actually chat with a manufacturer rep next week to see if we can get them to make a few adjustments for us! Btw their lifting capacity (for 2 legs, and the controller can take up to 4 in total which is cool for corner or zig-zag desks) is up to 100 kilograms (so cca 50-60% more than IKEA ones :)). Like I said - I want every single part of this product to feel great, premium and quality - so that's why we didn't just jump in and offer legs as is, but are rather trying to get the best possible option to offer.
Matej Grozdanović
@akdm_ Oh, and we also plan to make adapters for popular existing legs (for example if you have an IKEA standing desk, but want to upgrade just the surface) ;)
Anthony Da Mota
@matej_grozdanovic Thanks for those informations!

If LEGO made a desk. 👏🏼
Matej Grozdanović
@rrhoover hey Ryan! Glad you like it! Yeah, you could say LEGO was a huge influence, but they have been on all of my work in my life. Ahh, remembering the good times when I was a kid playing with those for hours... :)

Check out our newest update where we outline the super cool process of making this beauty :) https://www.kickstarter.com/proj...

BTW, we had a Mashable editor come over to check Modulos out in person. In his words: "I visited Modulos in their Zagreb office to check out the project in person, and came out with a sudden desire to purchase a modular desk — something I've never thought of before." :) Check it out: http://mashable.com/2017/09/08/m...
Jane Gale
super useful!
Matej Grozdanović
@janegale1 thanks Jane! That was exactly the idea behind Modulos :)
Zinger Lou Isa
This is amazing!
Matej Grozdanović
@zingerlouisa Thanks so much - I love it when we get comments like this :)
Mike Donovan
I love the idea but the price is really prohibitive.
Matej Grozdanović
@mikelikebike yeah, we know the pricing goes into the premium segment. However, when it comes to desks using real A-grade wood it's not that high. There's also the fact that it isn't made to be used for a short time - but rather be a lasting designer piece, not be thrown away on first chance. Also, by establishing this production run and gathering revenue in sales, we can gather resources for further R&D, including a version we plan in the future that's made out of modern materials and thus cheaper. What's cool is that it will still be fully compatible with this one!
Matej Grozdanović
@mikelikebike Basically, we're not kickstarting just a product - we're kickstarting a brand with an idea. The product palette would expand over time, but to start we need to focus on one product.
