Mocker is an app where it's legit to be toxic to your coworkers. Create a group with your team, upload each other's photos and make hilarious collages of them.
Hey Product Hunt! πββοΈ
Let me introduce you Mocker. That's an app that we as a team desperately needed while working on other projects π
In the startup world, most people are toxic by default β£οΈ
But by 'toxic' I don't mean offensive toxic. I rather mean friendly toxic β startup coworkers love to make edgy jokes, roast and make fun of their colleagues to actually make them laugh. I believe it's healthy and improves your work relationships.
With my team, we often do this. Whenever there's an opportunity to make fun of some situation π΅βπ«
For example, our teammate Bohdan always has trouble with his mic on our daily zoom calls. We never hear him well, it's like he's in an aquarium or something.
So I took his picture, Mocker automatically cut his head out and Iβve put his head instead of Ace Ventura's head getting out of the elephant's ass (you have to know this picture ππ). Adding the text 'Bohdan trying to be heard better on zoom calls' and voilΓ β he laughed his ass out after seeing this pic.
Situations like this that are worth being made fun of happen daily in startup and tech teams. I'm sure that you as people who also work in the industry know it first-hand π
To use Mocker, you have to sign up, create your team's group and invite at least 2 more teammates to it. Your group will be unlocked then and you'll be able to create and post mocks of your team. If you donβt have ideas for mocking, you can also upload just funny raw photos of people so that other members of a group will be able to mock them. Just like we did with @rrhoover's photos on the screenshots above.
The Mocker editor itself automatically cuts out people, heads and objects from images. You can also swap backgrounds and add text on the image. Thatβs basically all the needed functionality to create hilarious mocks π₯
Give Mocker a try and tell us all your feedback in the comments! π
@ihor_levenets1 It encourages toxic behaviour. Yes, there is nothing wrong with a few funny jokes, but an app that makes it easy to mock your coworkers can get out of hand easily.
In any case, the world is a crazy place so maybe this can become a huge success.
@jsteneros we intentionally made all the groups private so only people whom you invite and trust can join it. That's how we expect it won't get out of hand. But we'll for sure keep a close eye on users' feedback and use cases to prevent any unhealthy behavior π€

@jsteneros I agree with your point of view. I've seen fun turn into bullying in a blink of an eye, in working teams. As a team leader, I wouldn't encourage this. What some people find funny, others might find nerve-wrecking, the line is fine, and not the same for everyone.
@ihor_levenets1 I hope you succeed, this is just my 5 cents.
@abhishek1846 please do! let us know your feedback π

Haha, neat idea - I LOVE this. Do you plan to integrate with the distribution channels e.g. Slack, Teams, Whatsapp etc? It would be great to be able to 'send a mocker' I created, similarly to how I can on Giphy for example.
Congrats on the launch guys - nice, original idea!
@dan_robins thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, we were thinking about Slack integration. The only trouble with this is that if you see all the mocks in Slack, but not in the app, you are less incentivized to open the app. That's not good for retention π

@ihor_levenets1 No problem, I like the idea!
Please take this with a pinch of salt - you know your business better than me.
But from the outside, I understand your point re retention, but right now I think your focus should be on acquisition.
Slack is a fantastic distribution tool for creative content. If one Mock gets shared via Slack and seen by 100s of people, that is more exposure, and more people incentivised to create similar things in the app (to share on Slack!).
Case in point, I never go into Giphy unless I am making or uploading a Gif - but I use it daily to share gifs via Slack.
If a mock happens in mock but there's no one there to see it... was it ever a mock at all?
Congrats again on the launch and best of luck!
