What do you think? …

Jeffrey Fulton
As a long time user of 1Password, I had become increasingly dissatisfied with the direction the app and company were taking. They seemed no longer interested in customers like me and instead seemed focussed on the enterprise market. Features I loved were slowly replaced with features I didn't care about, or worse yet, actively disliked. After leaving a review in the App Store saying as much, I received a reply that effectively said "We know what you think you want, but what you really want is what we're giving you". I found others who had the same experience and I knew we could do better. Welcome to Minimalist. A password manager with all the features we as individuals want, without the bloat required to satisfy the enterprise market: - Designed exclusively for Apple devices because that's what we use. - Syncs via the iCloud account we already trust. - Offers One-Time Purchase because many of us are tired of subscriptions. - Supports Apple's AutoFill system to provide AutoFill without browser extensions because, in our experience, the promise of browser extensions generally out performs the delivery. - Generates 2FA codes without the need for an additional authenticator app. - Secure and private using industry standard 256-bit end-to-end encryption. - Generates strong passwords which are secure yet reasonably easy to type when necessary. - Unlocks super fast! We can't stress enough how frustrating it is to have to wait on "cute" unlock animations before accessing our data. - Supports Apple's Family Sharing for all purchase options meaning all plans are family plans. - Made in Canada with honesty and integrity at it's core. You can see this in the product, the marketing, the terms of use and privacy policy, and most of all in the customer support. The response we've received so far is fantastic! People are loving Minimalist! How do we know? They tell us! We get enthusiastic emails every day packed with praise, questions, feedback, and feature requests. These are really the best customers anyone could ask for. All we need now is more of them! Interested? Try Minimalist for free with a 10 password limit. No credit card or subscription required. Never expires. Give it a try and let us know what you think. We're on a mission to make Minimalist the best password manager for iPhone, iPad, and Mac so your feedback is very valuable. Thanks and take care! - Jeffrey

Its seems to be amazing Jeffrey. Does it support also import from 1password?
Jeffrey Fulton
@csaba_kissi Thank you very much for the kind words! Yes, Minimalist supports import from 1Password via 1pif (recommended) or csv.
Ross Rich
@jeffreyfultonca excited to compare this to 1pass!
Kyleigh Smith
@csaba_kissi @jeffreyfultonca assuming the same is possible form LastPass as well?
Joel Hansen
@jeffreyfultonca smart idea, congrats on the launch!

Looks great. Are extensions for Firefox/Chromium-based browsers planned?
Jeffrey Fulton
@tafkaf Thanks for the kind words! In short, no, at least not yet. Minimalist AutoFill is built on Apple's AutoFill system which has many security and privacy benefits over dedicated browser extensions. On iOS this means virtually all browsers are supported: Chrome, FireFox, Brave, DuckDuckGo, Edge, Opera, and probably many others. On Mac unfortunately, it's currently limited to Safari only. @jeffreyfultonca OK thanks. Since i need my passwords available in different browsers, Minimalist is not for me. Still, the idea providing a nice interface (an actual "app") to Apple's AutoFill/iCloud-keychain is very appealing.
Jeffrey Fulton
@tafkaf I completely understand. I'm really hoping other browsers are eventually able to support Apple's AutoFill system on Mac. At that point third-party password managers like Minimalist will “just work” like they already do on iOS!

Do you have any updates on this? I’m becoming quite interested in Minimalist, but use Vivaldi as my desktop browser.

Reminds me a little of Secrets by @pfandrade_ https://www.producthunt.com/post...
Jeffrey Fulton
@pfandrade_ @tomflemming Secrets would have been my 1Password replacement had we not decided to build Minimalist. Secrets is a great app!
David Collins
Long time 1Password user here, very disappointed by their recent decision to use Electron, will be giving this a try!
Jeffrey Fulton
@david_collins_wildpoint Thanks David! Please let us know what you think. We're on a mission to make Minimalist the best password manager for iPhone, iPad, and Mac so your feedback is very valuable!
Lee Sherman
Okay, so I get why you built it. I abandoned 1Password long ago and the recent switch to Electron pisses me off too. What you haven't told us is why we should use this instead of the Apple Keychain.
Jeffrey Fulton
@lsherman Our marketing effort is that of a "switcher" campaign where the target demographic already knows what they want and don't want. Rather than attempting to convince anyone "why" they want our product, we simply highlight the benefits of the product in ways we hope will resonate with them. What do you think of this strategy? Do you think we should try something different? If so, what?
Lee Sherman
It's a solid marketing strategy. Still curious though. If you had to break down the advantages and disadvantages compared to the Keychain, what would you say they are? I prefer to keep things simple and use Apple tools whenever possible, and believe that password management should be a core OS function so a tool that competes would have to have huge advantages over the built-in option. It's unclear to me what those are here.
Jeffrey Fulton
@lsherman Thanks. And I agree with pretty much everything you said. In order for Keychain to be my password manager, it would need to store any arbitray type of information rather than just passwords, allow custom fields per item with various input types, have a dedicated app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and have immediate, bullet-proof syncing. I'd love to hear what others think, did I miss anything?
Lee Sherman
@jeffreyfultonca thanks. However I believe you just committed one of the cardinal sins of marketing. You listed "advantages" in terms of features the other product doesn't have (maybe doesn't need) rather than go into why you are better. If the intended user values these things then sure, you win but what if they could care less about them? Wouldn't it be better to go head to head on features if you are truly trying to get people to switch? For example, if you had stronger encryption that might be compelling. Encryption is probably the most important feature in a passwords app. Custom fields? Not so much. I think iCloud has bullet-proof syncing already. Is yours faster? See what I mean?
Lee Sherman
@jeffreyfultonca All that said, I do think you will pick up iPswd deserters that don't like Electron or the bad vibes the company is giving off now. It appears to be a good product and you deserve it. But I long ago found I didn't use those features you mentioned in iPswd. You end up fiddling with your passwords instead of getting work done. For me, the Keychain suffices. YMMV.

I get the Apple native argument but your app falls short for so many people not completely bought into the Apple ecosystem. It doesn't even work on Chrome. I'm assuming Android is an after thought. So, well, can't use a shiny new app made only for apple where 1Pass supports everyone.
Tom Schlander
Looks great. Love the simple Apple style UI. Need to give a try. Might be what I need.
Jeffrey Fulton
@tschlander Thanks Tom! Please feel free to check out our road map to see what's coming next: https://minimalistpassword.com/n...
Tom Schlander
@jeffreyfultonca Thanks for the link. A lot of ground to cover, but if you keep the simplicity and awesome UI it should be a no brainer. Live the feature set that is coming. And one thing that is awesome is the option in having a one time payment or a annual subscription. All for a reasonable price. Congrats for that.
Jeffrey Fulton
@tschlander Agreed! We've already had a number of customers gently reminding us to avoid the temptation of "being all things to all people", and instead continue our focus on a simple, minimalist experience tailored to people using Apple products. We could not ask for better customers!
Tom Schlander
@jeffreyfultonca Exactly what I like. You can add new features, but don’t loose focus. Just bought it!
