What do you think? …

Jason Briggs
Thanks a lot for hunting us @williamchanner! Hi Product Hunt, I’m Jason. This all started when I built a simple app to help my mom clean up her computer - she had over 350 files on her Desktop! At Meta Search we believe that you should be able to find your files as easily as you can find stuff on the Internet. We’ll be here all day to answer your questions - we’re looking forward to hearing from you! 😃
Daniel F Lopes
@jasonrastrick @williamchanner This looks very promising. How much will it cost?
Jason Briggs
@danflopes @williamchanner We're still thinking a lot about this and would love feedback! When we leave beta, we'll be charging $10 a month for the Pro tier that allows unlimited cloud integrations and devices. We plan to support a lot more cloud accounts in the future. ☁️☁️☁️ There's more info here: www.meta.sc/pricing/ Any ideas?
macbikegeek
@jasonrastrick @danflopes @williamchanner $10 for pro seems reasonable. What devices are you thinking of?
Jason Briggs
@macbikegeek @danflopes @williamchanner We're working on a Windows application right now, and we'll be supporting iOS and Android as well 😃
macbikegeek
@jasonrastrick @danflopes @williamchanner My wife is eagerly awaiting the Windows version!

I have been using the Beta for quite some time. It is really useful. 👍
Jason Briggs
@kkkosariya Awesome, that's so great to hear!
Emily Pavlini
@kkkosariya Thanks for helping us with beta testing! 🎉

@jasonrastrick @emilypavlini @ataylor0123 How do you folks organize your files (or you don't have to because of Meta)?
Aaron Taylor
@tomfme @jasonrastrick @emilypavlini I used to meticulously file things away in crazily complex folder structures trying to keep things organized. Since we built out Meta, I think I can count the number of folders I've created on one hand! As of now I basically have a few folders I'll throw things in to keep my top level clean, and whenever I need to access something I just go through Meta. All my old stuff still exists in those folder heirarchies (no need to rearrange it) and is just as accessible as the new.
Jason Briggs
@tomfme @emilypavlini @ataylor0123 I don’t organize at all, I rely entirely on Meta now 😃
Emily Pavlini
@tomfme @jasonrastrick @ataylor0123 I'm very organized - maybe too organized (folders in folders in folders!) 😂 Meta saves me a TON of time because I just do a quick search instead of clicking into 100 different folders to get to what I'm looking for! I also now have files scattered across many different cloud services, so sometimes I can't remember where to look 😬
Lee Peterson
After choosing the services I want Meta to index, I installed the app. It asked me to select the directories I want indexed, so I chose Dropbox, Drive, etc. But does this mean it's only indexing what's in my Dropbox folder on my computer? Or is this indexing my entire Dropbox account? Dropbox's search *sucks* plain and simple. I was hoping Meta would fix Dropbox's lacking search capabilities.
Jason Briggs
@lee_peterson Hmm, interesting, we didn't consider that user flow! If you connect your Dropbox and Drive cloud accounts to Meta that will be the source of truth, and you can still open those files locally if you have the Mac client. I would suggest removing Dropbox and Drive local syncing and just connect directly to the cloud apps themselves. 😃 Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention, we'll definitely update the Mac App to be more explicit about that! Let me know if you run into any issues with that, I'm happy to go into more detail!
Lee Peterson
@jasonrastrick Awesome. I hadn't actually considered it a UX issue now that I think about it. There didn't seem to be anything "wrong" with it, you know? I guess I just didn't see something like "We're indexing your entire Dropbox/Drive/Slack/etc. accounts, and you can add local macOS directories to index as well." If I saw that, then I'd just skip indexing local files since Alfred/Spotlight does that very well for me.
Jason Briggs
@lee_peterson Yeah that makes complete sense! Thanks!
Aaron Taylor
Hey everyone! I'm Aaron, CTO at Meta. We're super excited to be on Product Hunt today! I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the product and our journey building it. We've got a lot of exciting stuff going on 😊 FYI, we've hit some Google Cloud Platform quotas due to a usage spike today 🎉 🎉 🎉 We're working on getting them resolved ASAP, but if it takes a bit longer than usual to get your account set up that's likely why!
Aaron Taylor
Wow, thanks Product Hunters for all the traffic! We've brought on more than 10 times as many people today as we have in a single day so far, indexed millions of files, and processed tens of millions of requests. That's awesome!!! We did have a few hiccups along the way in getting everyone's Meta accounts ready, primarily in the form of slow downs, so some of you may just now be getting access to the search. There were a few different issues at play, but after some awesome work put in by our team and the wonderful folks at our technology partners, we've been able to mitigate most everything causing slowdowns, and the system is just about caught up to where it should be! If you haven't been unlocked just yet, you should be soon!
macbikegeek
I'm loving Meta. I've been on the beta for a bit and it's saving me anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour when I have to go searching for things. I have stuff across multiple cloud services and a lot of disk space on my Mac and things just show up instantly when I look for them in Meta. And Emily and Jason and Aaron are extremely responsive to questions and feedback. Not to mention really nice folks.
Emily Pavlini
@macbikegeek Thanks for all the positive feedback - I'm blushing! 😊
macbikegeek
@emilypavlini "Just the facts, ma'am" ;-)
Emily Pavlini
Thanks for hunting us, Will! Hi Product Hunters! Very excited to be here 😍 Adding to what Jason said, we created Meta because the average employee wastes 4 hours each week searching for or recreating lost work 😱 I’m a huge fan of productivity, so that is not cool! We’ll be here all day answering questions and would love to hear your feedback, so keep it coming! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on what we’ve built! 😃
