I'm Mark, a tennis dad, and Matchside is the app I wanted every time I was sitting on a bleacher texting "4-3 second set" to my parents. The problem: tennis is the one youth sport where nobody who isn't at the court can follow along. Baseball and softball parents have had GameChanger for a decade — a live play-by-play, an animated field, grandma watching from three states away. Tennis had nothing. Scores lived in a parent's head, or in a group chat that was always two games behind. What Matchside does: - Score a match with one thumb. Point-by-point, any format — best of 3, Fast4, pro sets, no-ad, match tiebreaks — and it's free. Always will be. - Everyone who cares can watch live. Share a link. No app, no login required. Family follows the score, point by point, as it happens. - Then it turns the match into a broadcast. This is the part I'm proudest of. After the match, Matchside generates a 3D animated replay of every point with two AI commentators, Miles and Cass, calling the action. They know the player's season — the record, the streak, the head-to-head against today's opponent — so it sounds like a real booth, not a text-to-speech readout. Highlight reels get cut from it automatically. - A record that grows. Every match becomes a stat line: serve numbers, winners and errors, how they do in first sets, tiebreaks and deciders, UTR over time, a map of everywhere they've played. The kind of history a kid can look back on at 18. How it evolved: I started with a prototype on a laptop to see if I could even score a match fast enough to keep up with real points — that turned out to be the whole problem, and I rebuilt the scoring input three times before it was faster than a scorebook. The 3D broadcast started as a "would this be cool?" and became the thing people actually shared. And the biggest lesson came from my own kids' matches: a parent's phone is the only camera at a junior match, and it's not a good one. Animation from the score, rather than video, is what makes a shareable replay possible for a sport nobody films. It's on the App Store now (iPhone).
