Backed the Kickstarter. While I have had worse experiences, in that the creators never sent anything the quality and customer interaction surrounding this product is abysmal. The app used to control the LEDs has never functioned properly. Other backers were able to improve it by changing the pin setup, but most of its functions are still unusable or substandard. The music reactive feature is only applicable to a set of like 10 preset tracks including some off beat Christmas songs and a happy birthday variant, for example.
The product never came with detailed instructions regarding what you can plant on it or how. Bringing this up to the creators yielded such comments as “it’s on the Kickstarter page,” spoiler alert, it’s not. They have a vague collection of photos and generic plant names eg moss, but nothing specific or actually helpful. The water tank is basically impossible to fill when it’s on the wall, despite its advertisement as being usable in this way. The water tank also frequently leaks and there is no way to determine how full it is.
I gave up on attempting to grow anything after the lack of feedback from their CS, and was attempting to just utilize it as a cool light, which was still difficult, due to the defects with the app, and only became more difficult when only a few months in with irregular use, only the G and B settings seem to work. No more R or white.
The “Mars” terrain base is cracking despite not even regularly containing water and not being responsible for growing or holding anything. It seems completely implausible that it would retain its shape with any water regularly stored in it, as when water was used, the bottom portion had a visible dark stain (this is near where the cracking is).
This whole thing is just such a bad joke. I don’t know if the creators meant well and were just genuinely incapable of making what they promised or it was some crapshoot scam from the get go. The resultant product makes either scenario feel plausible.
