I built an app to fix my own blind spot. A while back, I realized that, despite caring deeply about the African continent and its diaspora, I barely knew what was happening there day to day. I realised that if it weren't for TikTok or X creators' interest in African affairs, a lot of the news would have gone under the radar. And even worse is the complete blind spot I had with the diaspora too. Those platforms are great, but it's very easy for African news to get drowned out by other content. Or worse. So I decided to build an app to help me address that pain point. Mara Akuko is a news aggregator app for Africa and its diaspora. It brings together reporting from outlets across the continent and diaspora communities into one feed, so you can: - Follow the regions and topics you actually care about - Get alerted when a story that matters to you breaks - Read the news from African voices, not just international wire coverage I made it for people like me, and anyone who wants a real understanding of what's happening on the continent and to stay connected to the diaspora as a whole.
