Manifest is a grid-based pinboard for notes. Simply click and drag anywhere to create a memo and snap it to the grid. All memos can be moved, resized and deleted. Your browser's local storage is also utilized to save notes between sessions and while offline.

Hi Product Hunt! I built this simple note taking web app over the holiday season to use as a way to keep track of ideas, tasks and other random things in a browser tab. The premise was pretty straight forward. Challenge myself to write something in vanilla JS, throwing popular and complex frameworks to the wind, and create a satisfying interaction using a grid-based layout. If you have any feedback or encounter any bugs, please make an issue on Github. Currently dark mode and few smaller improvements are planned for the next release. Enjoy! Love this. but with data being local storage I feel like I could only really use it for something that I'm not too worried about losing. I wonder if you could be creative with allowing users to 'save' their data but still not worrying about implementing typical accounts and sign ins. What sprung to mind was having a 'save & dowload' which downloads the data to your local machine, then an upload to reupload it if necessary. That way I could switch machines, or even share my notes with someone else. Just a fun little idea, instead of going down the heavy, bulky accounts and database route

@simongabriel Exporting/importing would be absolutely possible, but just feels like a lot of over engineering for what Manifest actually is. From the beginning I've had to wrestle with the the desire to make it more than it needs to be, like some hardcore thing that should hold notes for you forever. But I always landed on the side of making something that you need in the moment, that doesn't require much commitment or questions to get started. Had it been anything different I probably would've made it an online service with accounts that people pay for. Because by that point you'd expect it to work a certain way.

"All notes can be be moved" Apart from that, behind a login I would definitely use this! Don't trust local storage for the long term.

Hi Jonathon, enjoying this elegant tool! Beautiful and intuitive design. Perhaps beyond the scope of the project, but can really see this an alternative to Trello. Lean and fast! Maybe a simple way to tag or to keep a category of notes within a grid. Love to see a button to clean up notes, similar to the Mac 'spaces' so overlapped notes scale and snap to be seen at a glance. I'm finding it fast to reach for Manifest (pinned tab) because it's within eye contact over my long time companion TextEdit. Nice work!

@imagemechanics I like the idea of grouping or folders a lot. But I think it would almost hurt me to start adding additional UI actions to accommodate for it. 😅 Possible perhaps to do it with keyboard shortcuts or some kind of hover gesture...

Great idea and implementation. Whenever I am on call with someone, opening a text editor or something to take notes seems like a drag. This fits in perfectly. Thanks.

I like it! Would be great to have a resizing feature (therefore you could create big/small groups of notes, etc.).
