A food journal where your friends' real meals replace algorithms and influencers. No calorie counting, no macros, no AI picking where you eat. You post what you eat, your friends see it. Closer to Letterboxd for meals than MyFitnessPal. Built because food is how people stay connected — not something to be optimised. Currently iOS TestFlight, launching properly this summer.
Hey! Devon here, building Makan.
I'm half-Indonesian, half-British and grew up bouncing between Jakarta and the UK. Food was basically how my family stayed in touch across time zones, not something to be counted or ranked. Every food app I tried either turned meals into macros or pushed me toward influencer restaurants I couldn't afford. I wanted the opposite, somewhere I could just see what my friends were actually eating, without the algorithm in between.
That's all Makan really is. You post meals, friends see them, that's the whole thing. No calorie tracking, no "healthy vs unhealthy" scoring, no AI picking dinner.
iOS TestFlight's live if anyone wants to try it. Would especially love feedback from anyone who's bounced off Beli for being too leaderboard-y, or who just wanted a food app that wasn't trying to make them skinny.
