Hi everyone, Lunafic started from my hobby of roleplaying with AI (raw LLMs), which I have done for years. I always imagined myself entering the world of fiction, but I found many problems while doing it.
The first prototype of Lunafic was bad and generic. Then we took a detour to create a professional writing tool for novelists and screenwriters that, in the end, no one used. I decided to return to the initial idea, using the same engine and what I learned.
Now, Lunafic is a platform for AI roleplay characters you build stories with over long, continuous memories. It is an opinionated AI roleplay experience featuring long-term memory, chapter progression with a beautiful editor instead of endless generic chats, and a solution to the long-standing problem of multi-character consistency.

Lunafic V4 is live. Quick context, Lunafic is visual AI roleplay. You play your own character inside a story world and the AI plays everyone else.
We built V4 because many new players opened a world, typed "Hi" to test it, and did not know what to do next. Here is what changed.
Playable Worlds
Someone else builds the world and you play it, like visiting another player's world in a co-op game. The world and its characters stay with the person who built it, your story is yours.
When you press Play, you choose your hero and pick how the story opens from a few starting choices. Some worlds have endings to reach, and locked endings show a hint so you know what to aim for.
You can edit any line of your story like a book, also in Playable Worlds.
MC Mode, Author Mode, and the MC picker
Players of a Playable World always play in MC Mode. MC means main character, the character you play, and the AI never writes your character's dialogue, thoughts, or actions.
The person who built the world gets two more options in their own world. The MC picker lets them step into any character of the world. Author Mode lets them stop playing a character and tell the AI what happens, then the AI writes the scene with every character.
Scene pictures
The person who builds a world adds pictures for its big moments. While you play, the AI shows the right picture when that moment happens. The author makes these pictures, they are not generated while you play.
Memory
Promises, laws, and contracts made in your story are now saved word for word from every chapter. Before, most of them only survived inside a chapter recap.
The oldest chapters of very long stories no longer drop out of memory. Before, one story carried only 12 of its 19 chapters.
When you mention something from an earlier chapter, the AI looks back through every earlier chapter, and it searches by meaning, so it finds it even when you say it in different words.
A new Memory window shows what the AI remembers and lets you fix it, on paid plans.
AI writing
The AI now reads character sheets as plain text. Before, in almost every story, it got them as raw code text.
Characters act on what they want, and hard characters stay hard. In our tests, one sentence pattern the AI overused dropped from 2 in 3 replies to fewer than 1 in 10.
When a character was set to speak another language, like Japanese, the AI sometimes ignored it. Now a world can give each character speech examples for each language.
A new Writing tab in settings works like the options screen of a game. Pick reply length, whether your moves can fail, and how often characters take the lead.

Every screen was redrawn for the phone first.

A chapter opens at your latest message.
Claude and ChatGPT
Connect Lunafic to Claude or ChatGPT and ask about your stories in plain words, like "Summarize what happened in my last chapter". It can read your stories, manage wiki, manage world scenario.

I'm Badal, Co-Founder of Lunafic.ai. Right now I'm overjoyed that I have the chance to write this today. My partner has described the product well, and now I would like to add more in-depth to our personal journey into building Lunafic.
While Lunafic was built on top of current AI technologies and ecosystems, our team has been forged and challenged many times since 2017 when we just graduate from high school. That was a solid Nine-year Journey! We had launched many products and services before. Some were cancelled or pivoted midway, some had a solid two-year run and we got priceless experience to learn from them. Somehow we still stay here and proudly launch Lunafic.
If I can describe what made us persistent over the years, it's the curiosity about what it feels like to reach global scale with product that is truly a value creation for others.
In my view, what makes Lunafic stand out is the sheer creative freedom it gives us. We can enjoy our hobby as role-players, and also create story of our own. Lunafic isn't locking us into rigid dialogue trees; we can steer the plot in any direction, play with any characters, control our own scenarios and plots or simply sit back and enjoy the story unfold naturally.
I'm delighted to forge what Lunafic is going to become in the future, but I'm more thrilled to see our team's journey.
