YouTube is the world's best university, but it's also the world's loudest library. Lumina helps you reclaim your attention. 🏮 The Zen UI: Instantly hide sidebars, comments, and recommendation traps. 📝 Smart Notepad: Take timestamped notes right over the video player. 🛡️ Privacy First: No login, no servers. Your notes stay 100% local on your machine. Stop scrolling and start mastering. Shed light on what matters with Lumina.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Oussama, the maker of Lumina.
We’ve all been there. You open YouTube for a 5-minute coding tutorial, and two hours later, you’re 40 videos deep into a rabbit hole.
The YouTube algorithm isn't broken; it is a masterpiece of attention engineering. Willpower simply isn't enough to beat a multi-billion dollar AI designed to keep you clicking. I built Lumina because my own study sessions were getting hijacked, and I needed a way to turn YouTube from an entertainment trap into a focused e-learning platform.
Today, I’m incredibly excited to launch Lumina v3.0 (The Zen Architecture). We completely rebuilt the extension from the ground up.
Here is what makes v3.0 special:
🛑 Repaint Suppression (Eco-Engine): We don’t just visually hide the sidebar; we physically stop your browser from rendering it. This saves massive amounts of GPU and battery life during long study sessions.
📝 Smart Note Stacks: The floating notepad now auto-organizes your notes by Video ID and Channel. No more messy text files.
🎯 Focus Score: A real-time, gamified attention tracker that rewards you for staying on task.
✨ Zero-Flicker Performance: A new debounced observer engine makes the transition into focus mode buttery smooth.
🔒 100% Local & Private: Your notes and focus scores live on your device. No cloud, no servers, zero data tracking.
I built this to solve my own problem, but seeing 100% retention with our early users made me realize how widespread this issue is.
I would absolutely love your feedback. How do you currently handle distractions when trying to learn on YouTube? What features would make Lumina even better for your workflow? I'll be hanging out in the comments all day to answer questions! 🎓👇
