👋 Hey Product Hunters! I’m super excited to introduce LocalCan, the macOS app that'll massively simplify your local development process! 🎉
With LocalCan you can develop your apps locally with .local domains and HTTPS!
We hear a lot about DX (developer experience) but what about local DX? I realised it needs a major FIX.
Here comes LocalCan, a tiny app for macOS!
🔥 Say goodbye to these pains of local development:
😭 No more manual HTTPS certificate creation.
🤕 Forget about remembering port numbers and IP addresses.
🤮 Editing /etc/hosts is not needed
🔫 Fewer surprises when deploying to production
With LocalCan, you can now:
🌐 Use .local domains with HTTPS to effortlessly build and test your apps.
🚀 Focus on developing you app, and not on the setup
💸 To celebrate the launch, I’m offering a limited-time discount of -$10 with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Don't miss this opportunity to supercharge your local DX!
See you on localhost! 🎈
@piotrkulpinski Thanks Piotr! Certificates are wildcard already, supporting all subdomains. Support of nested subdomains (e.g. test . www . myapp . local) might come in the future 😉
@jarek_ceborski the app doesn't seem to allow setting wildcards yet. I'd want to set up a *.maindomain.local domain and point it to my app. Is there a way to do that?
@piotrkulpinski you just need to add a domain e.g sub.maindomain.local. Have a look at the demo I've recorder for this launch in the gallery where I'm adding "www" subdomain
@jarek_ceborski I've watched it, but I'm running a multi-tenant app where subdomains are generated automatically. So I'd need a catch-all subdomain if possible.
Congrats on the launch and thanks for your hard work! This product has been a godsend for us. We are freelancers by trade and work on a lot of different projects together. This simplifies so many processes for us, that we had to painfully manage in the past. It's insanely helpful that we could get rid of running everything on localhost with such a nice DX. Also, thanks for implementing the port forwarding so fast. It's been a joy!
If you have some time you can check out our upcoming launch of mailbites.io. We would really appreciate the support (https://www.producthunt.com/prod...).
@moritztomasi thanks Moritz 💪 So glad I can help! Your comment is a fuel to do more cool stuff 🤘 I already have an eye on Mailbites 👀 and looking forward for the launch!
Congrats on the launch Jacek! Looks like a really nice app that would be super useful for developers. I would expect it to be extremely useful for people who work with a lot of projects at the same time (like freelancers), which is great
Congratulations on launching LocalCan! Automating HTTPS certificates, port numbers, and IP address handling sounds like a great idea to simplify development. To enhance your product further, consider adding a feature that allows seamless integration with popular development frameworks or cloud platforms. This could attract a wider audience and streamline their workflow even more. Let's connect on Product Hunt to exchange more ideas! Keep up the excellent work!
@realkunalmehta Thanks! 💪 The idea of LocalCan is that it's framework-agnostic, to it shouldn't really matter what you use as long as it works over HTTP(S) (or WebSockets)
