📱Save your families memories with voice recording on a phone. 🎤 Your Storyteller is reminded weekly with customized questions or photo prompts. 📕 We preserve family stories in their voices, transcribe them and allow you to share them with family.
Hey Product Hunt, today we're launching our voice-based storytelling app (don't worry, no app store download needed).
We made it for anyone that values their family history and has aging relatives or children who could one day benefit from some family history and shared wisdom. Using Lineage means preserving the voices of your loved ones while learning new things about them.
When we started, we aimed to create a resource for families to connect across generations through verbal storytelling. We wanted to save important memories that don't have to be lost, and give people a place to tell that story that might not come up or isn't appropriate for all ages. I might be stretching a bit here, but there is even an opportunity for a new way to communicate tough subjects, instead of an intense face-to-face.
I personally used an app to record my dad's written stories a few years ago, and it was great. It worked because he was an author and loved to write. My mom on the other hand, can not stand to sit at her computer, so we created a simple web app that allowed her to be reminded and use her phone to respond to some prompts. What I found with our first test, is that you learn A LOT about the people closest to you. It was amazing, and I hope you do this with your family. We've now built out a full process for you to collect your family stories too, and it makes a great thoughtful gift.
We're new, we'd love for you to try it and let us know what you think. We're still improving the app to make it easier for more family members to join the process and your input helps.
We have a 25% discount right now for a year worth of stories, and there's a 14 day free trial just in time for Fathers day. Collecting family stories is time sensitive and you won't regret it.
Thanks for your time!
Lots of really good ideas, seems like your guys based this on real-life experiences!
As we all get older, a larger portion of each family is familiar with apps and other digital services. More and more family interactions happen online.
I think family is this rare instance where apps and chat groups actually keep us closer than we were before.
Congrats on the launch!
@pierredemilly I love your last point. I think that is true in many instances. Our hope is that intentionally addressing new topics will bring a new level of depth to our understanding of each other. Something long form that isn't ephemeral like social media and other messaging apps. Thanks for your thoughts!

Congrats on your launch! I wish this existed 30+ years ago I lost my Dad when I was young and he had the most perfect European accent that I miss dearly. Well done :)
@jxj7 Stories just like yours really pushed us to make this and you're not alone. Even though it's been 30+ years, my condolences. Personally, there are close relatives that no longer have a clear voice in my memories of them, yet I can easily find a tweet from 2012. Hopefully we can help someone with enough foresight to do it before it's too late.
Genius – I have so many audio recordings I took of my grandparents telling stories. Unfortunately I didn't start doing it until the last couple years of their lives. I wish I had this years ago
