I like the concept of this! There's definitely a problem being solved here in that there's so much vocabulary to learn in a language. However, with the cards being pop-ups, is there a risk of having to context-switch between what you were looking at and the card a potential issue?
Alexander Eliseev
@kay_pengelly That is a very interesting question! We have worked for a very long time to design our tool as efficiently as possible. One of the main requirements was to develop Learnee in a way that it is not distracting. We managed to do that very well with the following features: 1. you can adjust the transparency of the flashcard 2. you can choose any position on the screen where the flashcard will appear 3. you can adjust the time interval and the duration of the appearance 4. you can enable "do not distruct" mode (currently not available in the beta version) So you can customize the software very well to your own needs. The next reason is that the time needed to view the new word is extremely short. So you don't forget the topic you were working on before (short time memory has a storage capacity of about 30 secons and looking at or repeating a new word takes 10-20 seconds). And last but not least... download the beta version for free and see for yourself that it works and is not distracting :)

Nice product! How many flashcards can one expect to see popping for one particular language? And can you also set some kind of level, not to start with the most basic vocabulary?
Alexander Eliseev
@rubenwolff Hey Ruben, thank you very much! We will provide about 1000 flashcards for each language first. Why 1000? According to Browne et al. [1], you only need to learn 700 words to acquire the core spoken vocabulary in English. ‘1000 words allow you to understand about 70% of the language which surrounds you, as long as it is not too specialized’ [2]. Yes, we will of course work on a good structure to allow you to adjust the level to your own needs: starting with a rough filtering by language level A1, A2, B1, etc. to the individual filtering, so that you can choose every day a pair of words that you do not know and want to learn. Vocabulary size, text coverage and word lists. Vocabulary: Description, acquisition and pedagogy, 14, 6-19.

This looks epic! I’ve been looking for something like this, I just backed the project. Good luck with it! I can’t wait to get the Mac version, please send through a beta as soon as we have one :D

@stewup Glad to hear that someone also thought about such a learning method! We will do our best to make a Mac version available for you to test as soon as possible 🙂👍

👋 Hi Product Hunters and special thanks to Kevin William David for hunting for hunting us!🎉 🎯 Our primary goal was to develop the most time-saving vocabulary learning app on the market to help people make better use of their time! ⏰ Studying new words and trying to commit them to long-term memory is the most time-consuming part of learning a new language. Based on scientific research and in cooperation with Munich University, we are developing an efficient vocabulary trainer. 🎓 The idea is to study new words while you do your usual business on your computer. As a result, you don’t have to take additional time out of your day to learn new vocabulary. But what is even more important and difficult to do when studying a new language is to create a new habit and consistently learn and repeat new words. Learnee acts as your personal trainer, helping you to build a new habit. It works silently in the background and helps you learn continuously during the day. 🏆 Be a part of our community and help other language learners by exchanging your word lists. Join us in creating something revolutionary! We are still early stage and super thankful for your feedback. If you have any questions just let us know and we’ll make sure to get back to you as soon as possible! Download Learnee for free and save your time; it works! The Learnee Team, Alex and Tuan

@amine_jedoual We are working on a version for smartphones as well, so you can learn the vocabulary lists on the go as well as in front of your PC. But this will be realized after the desktop/Mac version.
